Auralex MOPAD overview

  • 1Description

Sometimes cheap and easy solutions provide benefits that far outweigh the cost. In this instance, isolating one's monitors from what they are standing on, be it speaker stands or the meter bridge of a console, can provide an instant improvement in bass response and stereo imaging. The MoPAD Monitor Isolation Pads from Auralex provide sonic isolation between monitors and whatever they are resting on, instantly improving the accuracy of the entire monitoring system.

MoPAD Monitor Isolation Pads are affordable, easy to implement and really effective at de-coupling monitors from the room and all its contents. No matter how good the mixing desk, microphones, preamps, cables and other pieces of gear that have been patiently accumulated, one is not truly hearing what the recordings sound like until the monitors are insulated from their environment. Depending on how the monitors are oriented (level or tilted), not all of the eight pieces will be used.

Made of proprietary, high density foam
"Tightens" and increases sonic detail of studio reference monitors, particularly low frequencies
Lightweight and ready to use immediately
Offers five angles for optimal monitoring

    Auralex MOPAD reviews

MoPAD - Monitor Isolation Pads for Pair of Speakers (4 Pieces per Side) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 53.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Your speakers need to be large/heavy. These are great... if you have phatty monitors. I have little Blue Sky EXO2 monitors. You need the pad to compress by 10-15% under the speaker to get proper isolation. Too little and the foam transmits vibes, too much and the vibes go straight to the stand/desk. I ended up cutting what I needed(1) from the length of the pads and using the rest for my sub. I measured the depth that my monitors compressed into the foam, found what that was 15% of, then subtracted a small amount and it came to 1 then cut them with a bread knife. Look up my monitors to get an idea of what to expect. The fact that you have to do this to get the whole story is rediculous. There should be a wight to compression ratio in the description. You could DIY something much cheaper and precalculated to work with YOUR gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good solution They won't turn bad speakers into good ones but definitely help to reduce low frequency distortion from the surface they are standing on. If your speakers are standing on concrete blocks or granite, even steel or glass you may be alright using plastic eraser as cushion. I placed my speakers on a wooden board and those pads do help to reduce vibrations, thus they improve overall sound. There is more to it however, just clap your hands where you listen to your speakers, if you hear an echo/reverb of your hand claps you have a much bigger problem and need more treatment that just those pads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed. This is one of those products that once you get it, you don't know how you lived without it and ask youself why they didn't come out with it years ago! There isn't too much to say about this one other than it does what it's supposed to do. I really like how this product lets me choose only the amount of material I need to get the right height and angle of my monitors. This isn't just some cheep foam. It's the proper material that you need to correctly isolate your monitors from your bench. If your serious about accurate monitoring, you need these!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful Monitor Isolation Just looking at the heading as I write...4 pieces is not quite correct. There are four base pieces and four extra wedges, which allow you to tilt forward and backward (or stay perfectly flat) by adding or removing them. You get two bases per monitor so wider monitors may be adequately supported. The pads are thicker than I actually require since I have smallish monitors that don't have as much weight as some of the large studio monitors. However, the price was fairly reasonable and they do the job for which they were designed. I am quite satisfied. On first installing them, I had them low, angling them up. Since then I have mounted them higher, angling them down. So the versatility was precisely what I needed. The only drawback is the Auralex Logo plaque is only on one end of the pads, so it may not show if you need to angle them up! :) (In other words, no draw backs.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Isolation Pad for direction I just got this set of Monitor pads to have my monitor speakers to be place on it. They can form in few ways, depending if you are tilting up or tilting down your speakers towards your ear. It is very important to have speakers aim towards your ear for good Stereo Image or Sweet SpotThe pads can be arrange to let your speakers point straight too. It can isolate the speakers form vibration on your table which will lose the sound accuracy. These pads are wide enough for most size bookshelf monitor speakers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good isolation Pads Prevents low freq from going down your speaker stands. I havent exhaustively tested it with a mic and looking at freq response but by just listening I feel my speakers sound less boomy. My stands are on hardwood floor so its good for those scenarios.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Isolation Bought these to isolate my studio monitors at my desktop. Before, the speakers thumped a bit much, and caused unwanted vibrations. Tried some rubber feet which did dampen the vibrations, but seemed to weaken some frequencies. Always saw these and wanted them. Glad I got them. Fixed all my issues, and like upgrading to a top-of-the-line studio monitor. Assorted wedges allow for upward or downward projection. So impressed I am buying the Gramma for my floor speakers in my home theater setup.
