RedWing RD-1605 overview

  • 1Description

The Red-Wing 130 Cocoon Shooting Tent is an egg-shaped plastic cove made up of four translucent diffusion panels that are fastened with zippers for easy assembly and storage. It features three photo portholes so you can shoot your product from overhead, at a 45° angle or horizontally.

Position any type of light source around the cocoon, anywhere -- even from underneath, if you are set up on a shooting table, or glass.

It is specifically designed for the angle of view and focus needed by a 55 - 60 mm macro lens on a 35mm camera or equivalent.

To change background colors, simply unzip the Cocoon and insert a paper backdrop cut to size.

For objects up to 16 x 22".

RedWing RD-1605 reviews

Cocoon Shooting Tent 130 - Large is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Massive This cocoon is really big and H E A V Y! When I chose it I didn't realize it was made of thick styrene, It's massive, not the kind of thing to be moving around, it's something you should keep static in your studio. If you need something to carry around and be easily stored choose a lighter one made of fabric. I wouldn't know about durability 'cause I just got it but construction feels really solid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't under estimate this... I shoot a lot of product images and I needed something special for unique curved surfaces and spherical objects that are highly reflective. I've tried translume wrappings, acrylics, etc... All kinds of unconventional stuff. Normal shooting tents would never work because the seams and openings would reflect. I happened upon this shooting tent while browsing for other white enclosures to get ideas. I ordered it on a whim to try. 1. Do not underestimate the size. It is BIG. I am 5'9 and I can comfortably sit and have lunch inside of this. Not kidding. It is NOT flexible, it is not light, it is not collabsible. Its either put together or not. And to put it together is tought. It only takes a couple minutes...but if you are doing it alone its tought because it is huge and the way the material responds to flex. You also need a solid surface to put this on. That being said...don't underestimate it's usefulness. Excellent look. You don't even need to use backdrops or paper or acrylic inside if you want a whiteout look. You get a great reflection from the bottom itself. Very easy to get a variety of looks. Position of lights and camera is effortless to get the results. I love it. I find it is easier to insert objects from the rear. I unzip a rear zipper about 1/3 of the way and just put objects in that way. I generally shoot with an 80 - 150mm length lens for product and that totally works fine. You can get a pretty good distance from you object. I much prefer shooting through this compared to a tent. A tent is faster for small objects shooting in bulk. However, for large reflective objects nothing will beat this. If your objects are not larger than 12 wide...I would go with the smaller size. As a professional I have the ability to have lots of different tools on hand for different objects and jobs. This will become an essential tool for a lot of my work. However, due to the size and ways to access the interior, it will be mainly for large objects. I will continue working with small objects on lighttables, seamless, and small tents. This really is for larger objects. I do recommend this if it fits your need! Be mindful of the size!
