The Master Classic Tripod Legs are a throwback to the time of the rise of the modern SLR when people were looking for reliability and functional capability over speed and low weight. This classic design is very sturdy and can hold its own, performance wise, against many other far more expensive designs. I use this as my main tripod along with a 3 way Giottos MH-5001 head. I found the head that typically comes with this tripod to be a little to limiting for me. The Giottos head is a PERFECT match with these as they are both relatively light weight yet both designed to hold 13.2 lbs. It's like they were designed with each other in mind. Together they hold the biggest thing I have to put on them (Sony A850 w/battery pack and 300mm f2.8 lens) with ease. I use these for wildlife, portraits, night shots etc. Basically any thing that doesn't require immediate rapid set-up. The Good: -LITERALLY HALF THE PRICE of carbon fiber pods that can hold a similar amount of weight. -Solid on its feet. Very sturdy, no shifting/bending legs even in some tough wind. -All metal construction. -Once locked down the legs don't slip. -Holds a good amount of camera for its weight. -3 year warranty (this tripod will outlast that warranty by a long shot) -It's pretty. It really is. Great simple style. Goes really well with pinstripe. ;-) The Bad: -A little heavier than carbon/titanium alloy tripods in its class. -Takes longer to screw the legs down tight/loose vs flip-clip type tripods. -Same with center post gears, just takes a little more time to move up and down. -Folded up it's a good bit longer than some of the multi-section carbon tripods. -Not the perfect tripod for back packing/travel by today's standards. But for those of us who got in shape carrying around 70's and 80's camera equipment, at 4.7lbs (THAT'S WITH THE HEAD) it's still pretty light. -Because of its section length, it can't get down as low as ones with smaller sections or legs that fold out further. -Not as good a warranty as say the Hakuba HG-503MX, which is also a nice tripod, but too long for me. Bottom line- this is a solid, go where you go, inexpensive, professional general use tripod that will serve you for years to come and if it does get stolen, it won't break the bank to replace it.
