This SLIK Pro 400 DX Tripod with SH-705E 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head supports up to 11.0 lb, measures 25.6" when folded, and includes a quick release plate. Each of its 3-section legs features an independent spread, a 3-position angle lock, and flip locks for fast deployment. The included push-and-pull, rapid center column is multi-sectional, which allows it to be converted to a shortened center column. This feature permits a minimum height of 20.0" or 12.5" when the center column is shortened. The SLIK Pro 400 DX Tripod provides a maximum height of 50.0", 53.5" with its center column shortened as well as fully raised, and 61.0" with the complete column fully raised.

Can the SH-705E head be removed & replaced with a ball head, etc.?
Yes you can remove the head from Slik Pro 400 DX Tripod with SH-705E 3-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head and add a different one. The main thing to look for is a head that has a 1/4" screw opening in the bottom. can you use a spigot with the 400dx?
I believe you are referring to the use of a stud on the tripod like this, http://bhpho.to/1EnkohZ.If that is correct it will work. But a thread which the heads quick release has is not much to grab on to and I do not recommend it.
