    Sony VCT-R640 reviews

VCTR640 Tripod is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 106.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Tripod for a Great Price! I am a videographer that uses various lenses for my Canon Rebel T2i to shoot a variety of different things. Some lenses are bigger and heavier than others, so needless to say a good, inexpensive tripod that can support the different weights and also provide smooth movements is rather necessary. This is the first inexpensive tripod I've ever used that provides smooth action coupled with the ability to deal with various lens weights. The construction on the legs is a negative (it doesn't seem to be the sturdiest thing ever), it's the only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars, but if you're just starting out and need a good tripod at a cheap price, this is the one to get!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value I don't have a lot of experience with tripods, most of the ones I have used are inexpensive. I used to use a Sunpak at school and decided to get one of these for myself. It is just as good if not better than similar Sunpak models. I think the panning control may be a little better. I don't know if I would call it 'lightweight' because I haven't used many tripods but it's sturdy not too heavy. I pretty much use this only for stationary stuff. I set it up, lock the angle in place and leave it when I'm shooting, so it works perfectly for me. For more advanced usage, or if you're going to be hard on your equipment, you probably want something higher-end.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight, fluid, and does the job I purchased this tripod for travel, as I was looking for a lightweight, compact tripod for my prosumer video camera. I have two Gitzo tripods for my photography, but hardly need their weight to handle an 18 oz camcorder. I have just taken the tripod for a two week trip, and it was quick to setup, fit into my carry-on luggage, and is quite lightweight. I even used it for my DSLR for a few images, but wouldn't leave the tripod unattended with that weight. Even with setup on the beach, the folding legs stayed clear of sand and the flip lock mechanism was flawless. The head was fluid and quite satisfactory. I would note that there was shake when using in strong winds (20mph+), but that's to be expected with such a lightweight tripod. One note to consider. It set up wonderfully on flat surfaces, but, was a bit more challenging to level on uneven surfaces because of the inter-locking leg support. If you are using primarily for uneven terrain, then I would think twice about this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for the price. I use it to film and take pictures on my sony hx200 and it works great, feels sturdy enough. The manual and standard head feels smooth enough. I also used it with my 23'' glide gear slider and it feels pretty sturdy as well. What's great about this product is the price, the quality and how smooth the head flows. This is only a basic tripod, nothing professional or extreme about it. Only a good support to stop some shaking and movement when taking pictures, a perfect tool when I do interviews for example. Hope this review helps.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from decent inexpensive tripod from Sony This tripod is about what you would expect for the price... $ It supports the camera well, has solid and logical adjustments. I use it for my D70 and a small video camera (about 1.5lbs) for these items it works fine. The D70 with my 70-300 Nikkor was a challenge for my little manfrotto ball-head, but this tripod hold it fine. The video camera can pan pretty smoothly, but the tilt adjustment is always jerky. Still, I wasn't expecting a fluid head $ If I had to find something to complain about (and I almost always do), the handle is not as adjustable as I would like. It is fine for most positions, but for the occasional low-angle shot, or macro shot it is not in the best place. Also, I am 6'4 and it is a little too low for my comfortable use - I imagine this is a problem for other tripods in this price range, but worth mentioning. Construction is decent - not a bogen but fine for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Deal!! Excellent deal. I did extensive research on tripods based on a budget i had. I found that this Sony tripod was the best in terms of quality, brand, material, features. Go to the Sony website and check how much they are selling that exact tripod for. You will be amazed. Sony Canada sells their tripod for around $80.00 tax included. B&H sells its tripod for around $25.00 + shipping and duty fees etc. Excellent deal for someone who does't want to pay a lot for a tripod.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Tripod for Easy Jobs! I use this tripod for a Canon Vixia HFM31 HD camera at work. It's great to use and very simple. I can easily explain to others how to use it and they can record when I'm not available. I also use some additional audio equipment that requires a mount and it's very easy to add on. This tripod has really served its purpose for some amateur videography. I would say that sometimes you have to be very careful to tighten the adjustments all the way or the camera will shift. Also, it is very easy to knock over. Those would be the only negatives for this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tripod for a photo enthusiast. I bought this tripod for my Nex 7. The quality is good. I do not own any other tripods, so I cannot compare it with others. The height adjustment mechanism is very user friendly and quick. The dimensions are exactly as mentioned in the product specifications. It is light weight, but not flimsy. The quick release plate is very useful. The panning and tilting features are user friendly as well. I think it is an excellent companion for a photo enthusiast. A professional photographer may prefer a heavier and longer tripod depending on his/her type of work.
