Velvet Fine Art Paper (8.5 x 11", 20 Sheets) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Results I've been doing comparisons to the Velvet Fine Art and Epson Ultra Premium Luster on a 3800 Stylus Pro. I like the results of the Velvet better. I'm very pleased with the sharpness of the prints in both color and B&W, and the rich tones and colors. To me the Velvet yields a more vivid print. One issue, however, is making sure you're printing on the whiter side of the paper. It's very difficult for me to see the whiter side but two tips have been helpful. Epson packs the printable side facing up when you open the package (box/plastic flap side up). The other test is the sticky test. Lightly moisten a thumb and forefinger and gently press on a tip of one sheet. The sticky (or stickier) side is the printable side. I've printed some B&W portrait shots that have all black backgrounds with the face the only lit subject area and have been very pleased with the results.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Adequate matt paper. This is a nice feeling relatively inexpensive paper. This paper does not have a photo paper glossy surface, it's more of a watercolor paper feel. The blues tend to print more toward a cyan than a true vivid blue. And the saturation isn't as dark when compared to a better paper such as Moab's Somerset Enhanced Velvet paper where the colors are very vivid and really pop. If you're looking for something inexpensive which you don't have install icc profiles for the paper and just want it to work, this is one of the better looking epson papers. It doesn't feel as cheap as their other glossy or matte papers. If you're looking for a paper for professional quality prints, this isn't the best option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality worthy of an Ansel Adams' print I've long since accepted the reality that I'm able to get better quality B&W images using digital technology and printing on an Epson Stylus R2400 printer than I ever was able to make in a traditional darkroom. But my first set of prints using Epson's Velvet Fine Art Paper exceeded expectations. The tonal distinctions are crisp, giving the full range between maximum black and white with a hint of detail. This was true for both images that have been digital from start to finish, as well as images from 4&5 negatives that were scanned to put them into a digital format. I will definitely use this product again to print any image, B&W or color, that I intend to exhibit or sell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I use a lot of this stuff and I love it The brightened neutral-white and mildly-textured matte surface makes this paper well-suited to portraits, atmospheric landscapes and images displayed in difficult lighting. But be patient, i.e., give your test/proof prints at least and hour or more to dry/cure before you judge color and densities. Prints made by the book (color managed, correct profiles, etc.) may look a touch muddy and colors may appear distorted when the print is fresh, but the prints will improve as they dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite Paper for Black & White Velvet Fine Art Paper has become my go to paper for black and white printing on my Epson 3880. Not only does it hold detail, it has a great tonal range. Furthermore the rough texture almost results in a 3D effect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Velvet User I've been using this paper for my fine art exhibit prints for at least four years. Every time I try another paper, I keep coming back to the Velvet. I get the details I want in the shadows. The colors, tonal range and the blacks are the best I've been able to achieve on my Epson 2200. And what I see on my display is almost always what I see on my print. I've also experienced no flaking as I hear some complain about other mat papers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from May be expensive, but worth it! If you use this product correctly, with high end ink, printer, formating, and color corrected monetor this paper will shine every time. Literally! This is not a glossy paper, but it doesn't need to be. If there is any metal or reflective surfice in your image somehow the paper helps it to actually appear glossy and metalic like. The only thing that is difficult with this paper is that any oil from your fingers will stay on the paper. Make sure you wear archival gloves when touching any part of the paper or your print will br ruined.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Great paper for the right project. I purchased some Epson Velvet Fine Art for use with an R2400. With some hiccups the results have been great. Wonderful texture and great whites. Its huge dmax gives you the printing range you need. Beware though of Epson's loading instructions. I find it works best when top loaded and id'd in the driver as enhanced mat.
