Manfrotto 556B overview

  • 1Description

This innovative Manfrotto 556B Leveling Center Column is a leveling system for the 190 Pro series (previous 3001 Pro) of tripods. It allows you to quickly level your photo or video head, independently from the tripod. A built-in 50mm half ball with 15° of levelling is mounted on top of the tripod center column so as to make the angle of the plate independent of the rest of the tripod.

Locking and unlocking of the half ball is via a turning grip on the bottom of the center column.

The half ball-mounted plate has a male 3/8" screw for attachment to a photo or video head, and a bubble spirit level for added ease of use.

    Manfrotto 556B reviews

556B Leveling Center Column for 190 PRO Series Tripods is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent addition to the tripod kit I work as an expedition photographer in the polar regions. The ability to quickly fine tune the level of the tripod head without having to mess with the legs on uneven ground is fantastic, enabling me to set up quicker to catch the wildlife action. Impressed wit the build quality and the simplicity of the adjustments. Only slight down side is the need to remove the locking nut at the bottom of the colum to remove it from the tripod. I use a couple of different columns with different heads. Very happy to have this in my kit bag

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works like a charm I put the column on my manfrotto legs with the manfrotto 501 head. My old column had broken due to too much weight. I've only had the column for a few weeks but it's been a great addition to a simple tripod setup- it allows me to quickly adjust the level of my shot without arming out the legs individually. The length of the arm is a double edged sword: It's long so I can arm it up for an extra high shot, but it also makes adjusting the level of the shot a bit hard since I need to use both hands pretty far away from each other. It's completely doable, just a little awkward.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A win and a loss The WIN - A great accessory, very easy to use, quick easy leveling, good grip on the lock thread at the bottom of the column, minimal increase in mass for hikes (old column is replaced), fits perfectly, quality product. The LOSS - the ability to quickly set the column up normal (90 degrees) to the legs. This is due to the lock nut grip that has to be removed before the column can be pushed through the top clamp. Overall, - a winner

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works perfectly I purchased this so I can set shots quickly with the leveling device. I use it rigorously and I am thoroughly impressed and give it the highest review possible. I use it with my 190XPROB Manfrotto tripod and the two were made for each other. Note: If you buy the 190XPROB just know it does not level for you and you have to do it manually by lowering or raising the legs, which can be tedious and a time waster. The centering device saves you a lot of time! I also use the 701HDV head, which I really enjoy. I feel the 3 items are the perfect combination for my DSLR / small camcorder video production business. I also do a fair amount of travel and I love how it can be broken down and fit it into a carry on bag. Very sturdy construction all the way around!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have for CF 190CX3 tripod This leveling column is a perfect addition to any Manfrotto 190Pro series tripod, especially all carbon fiber models. It is perfect companion for all photographers shooting panoramas or videorecording. I would buy it again in a blink of an eye. This product adds very little weight to the tripod, as it replaces original column, so additional weight is no more then 0.2kg.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed This worked great for use with the video head. I am using the original column for the ball head and can just switch out the entire column to change from video to still.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great upgrade for DSLR VIDEO! I've had a Manfrotto 190 photo tripod for quite a while. I use a larger video set of sticks for shooting with heavier setups. With the advent of DSLR cinema, I figured this would be a great attachment. Great for music videos, short films, and anything else you coud think of!
