Manfrotto 556B Overview

This innovative Manfrotto 556B Leveling Center Column is a leveling system for the 190 Pro series (previous 3001 Pro) of tripods. It allows you to quickly level your photo or video head, independently from the tripod. A built-in 50mm half ball with 15° of levelling is mounted on top of the tripod center column so as to make the angle of the plate independent of the rest of the tripod.

Locking and unlocking of the half ball is via a turning grip on the bottom of the center column.

The half ball-mounted plate has a male 3/8" screw for attachment to a photo or video head, and a bubble spirit level for added ease of use.

I purchased this so I can set shots quickly with the leveling device. I use it rigorously and I am thoroughly impressed and give it the highest review possible. I use it with my 190XPROB Manfrotto tripod and the two were made for each other. Note: If you buy the 190XPROB just know it does not level for you and you have to do it manually by lowering or raising the legs, which can be tedious and a time waster. The centering device saves you a lot of time! I also use the 701HDV head, which I really enjoy. I feel the 3 items are the perfect combination for my DSLR / small camcorder video production business. I also do a fair amount of travel and I love how it can be broken down and fit it into a carry on bag. Very sturdy construction all the way around!

Is this compatible with Manfrotto MT190CXPRO4 and if so, how much weight does this center column add to the original total weight of the tripod 1.65kg? I suppose there's only aluminum version to it and no carbon fiber column with leveling base?

Manfrotto 556B Leveling Center Column for 190 PRO Series Tripods is compatible with the Manfrotto MT190CXPRO4. The column will add 1.5 lb (670g) to the tripod. Manfrotto only produces an aluminum column with leveling base.

I have an older 2008 190 XPROB3 Aluminum tripod, the 556B doesn't look like it will fit through the plastic sleeve on the tripod. Does the bottom piece come off so that the column can fit through the plastic swivel sleeve on the older 190 XPROB?
