The TR8XL is a bi-amplified, two-way studio monitor that shares the same driver components as the original TR8 system. However, it features a powerful new amplifier that delivers a full 150 watts (100 woofer / 50 tweeter) to each speaker for those users whose listening environments require reproducing high volume levels. Also incorporated is a high-performance torroid power transformer, which provides the monitor with superior electrical and mechanical noise characteristics.
Each TR8XL is identical and therefore there is no acoustic distinction between the left and right speakers when used in stereo pairs. The cabinets can sit vertically or horizontally without impacting performance, so long as both cabinets are situated in the same direction. A front mounted bass port allows the monitor to be placed near a back wall without impacting bass response.
An input sensitivity control is used to compensate for different signal levels that appear at the input of the TR8XL. The control has a 20dB range. Multiple input connections are available and include XLR, both balanced and unbalanced, 1/4" TRS/TS phone, also allowing for balanced and unbalanced operation and an unbalanced RCA coaxial input. The cabinet is manufactured from 5/8" laminated MDF and filled with acoustical damping material to reduce internal standing waves.
