Microboards MIAS120TF Overview

Designed from the outset to deliver optimum image quality at an affordable price, the ArtixScan 120tf delivers pre-press quality results from 35mm strips and slides plus 6cm film from 6x4.5cm up to 6x9cm in size.

Quality is assured thanks to an ultra-sensitive 42-bit Kodak CCD, stable light source and a professional lens combine to deliver an optical density of 4.2 Dmax, guaranteeing retrieval of accurate colors and all highlight and shadow detail. An advanced auto-focusing system ensures sharp results whilst multi-sampling support virtually eliminates noise from the final scan. Furthermore, Microtek's Motion Correction Control eliminates problems that occur naturally as the scanner ages. Both FireWire and SCSI-II interfaces are included for Windows and Macintosh users (including Windows XP and Mac OS X) with all cables and a PCI FireWire card for Windows.

Choosing the best hardware for the job is only half the battle in delivering a brilliant image. Software plays an equally important role. To achieve this, Microtek has chosen LaserSoft SilverFast Ai Pro 6, the very best professional film scanner software available today. Successfully combining ease of use, quality and productivity, SilverFast Ai Pro 6 adds Scratch and Dust Removal, Adaptive Color Restoration, Grain and Noise Elimination to its impressive array of imaging tools. Quite simply, if image detail and accurate colors are required, SilverFast is the answer.

35mm and Medium Format Film Scanning
35mm strips, 35mm slides and medium format film are all supported using the supplied film holders. Medium format film can be scanned in strips as follows: 6x4.5cm (5 exposures), 6x6cm (4 exposures), 6x7cm (3 exposures) and 6x9cm (2 exposures).
4000dpi Optical Resolution
If you need to capture every last bit of detail from your film then this scanner will achieve it for you. 35mm film, for example, can be printed to A3 size with pre-press quality.
Advanced Auto-Focus System
Most auto-focus systems use a moving-lens system which can introduce potential magnification issues. The ArtixScan 120tf patented design moves the film holder leaving the lens fixed. This system delivers maximum dynamic range and hence, image quality.
42-bit CCD with 4.2Dmax
An ultra-sensitive Kodak CCD, coupled with a high quality optical path delivers a maximum density of 4.2D. This high sensitivity allows vast amounts of subtle highlight and shadow detail to be captured in the scan, with high color accuracy.
FireWire and SCSI-II connections
FireWire delivers the highest possible scan speeds by dramatically reducing the data transfer bottleneck apparent with other systems (particularly important with high resolution scans with large amounts of data). SCSI allows for connection to older systems that do not support FireWire
Multi-sampling support
All CCD based scanners are susceptible to random noise that can affect image quality. Multi-sampling averages the scanned data to virtually eliminate random noise and delivers the cleanest result possible.
Motion Correction Control
Microtek developed this technology to eliminate problems that occur naturally as the scanner ages. Over time, motor deviation can result in inferior scans. Motion Correction Control™ registers the mechanical steps with very fine precision and adjusts to ensure smooth, precise scan-head movement. As the scanner ages, the image quality delivered by this scanner will remain optimal.
Windows XP and Mac OS X Support
SilverFast Ai Pro provides full compliance with Windows XP plus native support in Mac OS X (including v10.2.x)
Includes SilverFast Ai Pro 6
Software is equally as important as hardware when it comes to achieving a brilliant result. SilverFast is the one package capable of squeezing the maximum amount of detail from your images and includes an advanced scratch and dust removal system.
    • Scratch and Dust Removal
This system provides the ability to easily remove dust and scratches from images during the scanning process. Unlike other scratch and dust removal products, this system works with black and white as well as colour film. A real-time preview permits the best possible setting to be found to achieve maximum removal of unwanted artefacts. Can be used with transparencies and reflective prints.
    • Real Time Image Correction
SilverFast shows the effect of changes to the image parameters in real time via the prescan window allowing you to quickly view the effects of any changes.
    • Automatic Image Optimisation
SilverFast uses artificial intelligence to optimise the scanned result. Optimisation requires the pressing of a single button to deliver a perfect image without the need for any prior scanning knowledge.
    • Professional Unsharp Masking
Sharpness is a significant feature for brilliant images but controlling it can be difficult. SilverFast makes it easy to see the effect by presenting a before and after image in the sharpening window.
    • NegaFix Negative Scanning System
Negatives are amongst the most complex film types to scan successfully. Negafix makes this supremely simple by reducing the negative scanning process to three simple steps. With well over 120 negative film types supported, obtaining an accurate result with negatives have never been easier.
    • Adaptive Colour Restoration
Restore old, faded colour and black and white film or normalise over-saturated colours with SilverFast ACR.
    • Noise and Grain Reduction
GANE is a software system that dramatically reduces grain and noise in the image whilst preserving image detail.
    • CMYK Softproofing
SilverFast allows scanning in CMYK mode. By selecting the required CMYK ICC profile it is possible to view the output colours, based on this profile, prior to scanning saving time-consuming post-scanning adjustments. It is also possible to view the individual C,M,Y and K channels prior to the final scan.
    • ICC Calibration
Both reflective and transparency IT-8 targets are included allowing the scanner to be periodically calibrated. Once calibrated, SilverFast creates an ICC profile, which automatically integrates into the colour workflow ensuring that the scanner always delivers accurate colour and greyscale results.
    • ScanPilot
Achieving high quality results used to require extensive scanning knowledge. SilverFast changed all that and now, even first time scanner users can achieve brilliant results with ScanPilot. ScanPilot guides the user through the steps required to deliver a perfect image.
    • Extensive User Control
SilverFast presents a clean, simple to use interface. For those wishing to make further adjustments to their images, SilverFast also provides total user control with manual adjustments available for all aspects of the scanning process
Two Year Total Support
Total Support offers 24 months telephone support plus a replacement scanner should the hardware fail in the 2 year period.
