The MiniGrip Head from Matthews is part of the MiniGrip Mounting Kit, but may be purchased separately. It functions as a grabber for the thing being grabbed -- a flag, a fixture, stud, or a small arm. Made of high-impact composite material for strength and minimum weight. Ideal for tabletop photography, car interiors, and other confined spaces.

Matthews MiniGrip Head Reviews
Smaller, less weight
Caveat to start: if you want a regular sized grip head to hold large, heavy fixtures via a standard 'baby pin' this is NOT the correct tool for the job. If you want less weight, smaller size for travel and you can manage working with some reduced functionality, then read on..... The mini grip head is some sort of composite material, not machined aluminum or steel. It will not accept baby pins: the largest diameter hole is the same as the second largest hole when compared to my other 'normal' grip heads. I use mine for travel. I place a boom pole yoke in the mini grip head for interviews. I was initially a little worried about the head holding up to the rigors of the road and the weight I planned to place in the device. I am three years into it now and it has NEVER failed me. I have placed hundreds of hours on it by this time and regularly rig up TWO mics on one boom pole via a dinkum clamp. Quite frankly the light stand I use is more likely to fail than is the mini grip head. Worries about the composite material? It is just fine and has taken a lot of knocks. Worried about being able to tighten down the clamping action? It locks in place without sagging or even coming loose. The Matthews mini grip head is a solid performer based upon its slightly limited ability. For me, for travel, the reduced weight and size are welcomed features. And for use with a boom pole holder, I never actually needed a standard sized grip head in the first place. But the mini grip head with confidence if you need reduced weight, reduced size and do not need the baby pin opening provided by standard grip heads.
smaller than I was expecting
It's not quite big enough for some uses but it's a good space saver for travel
