Lowel DV Creator 1 Kit Overview

This three-light Lowel DV Creator 1 Kit with LB-30 Case combines Lowel's most popular tungsten-halogen fixtures with barndoors, an umbrella, gel frame, gels, flex arm, light stands, and an LB-30 soft kit case.

With its high intensity #2 reflector and prismatic glass, the tiny, focusable Pro-Light is more efficient than a Fresnel of equal wattage, yet it gives an exquisite, even light with Fresnel-like shadow quality. It can be used as a low-level key or accent light, fill light (with diffusion), or backlight.

The wide focusing range of the Omni-Light makes it a flexible key or backlight. Add diffusion or an umbrella, and it's a soft fill source.

Compact, rugged, and versatile, the broad-throw Tota-Light can be used with its umbrella or gel-frame and diffusion as a soft key, fill, or backlight. With its adjustable reflectors, it can be a smooth and even background light, or point it toward the ceiling to raise the ambient (base) light level of a room. Tota-Lights are also widely used for photographic copy work.

Although this kit comes supplied for 120 VAC use, it may be fitted for use with other voltages with the appropriate bulbs and plug adapters, which are sold separately.

Swap the power cord and bulb and the Pro-Light becomes a battery powered, hand-held light
Use the included barndoors, umbrellas, and gels to alter the shape, quality, and color for the light
The padded carry case protects the equipment during transport and storage and has movable interior dividers

So Far So Good

I've purchased the inexpensive Chinese lights before and they literally lasted all of three months. Flimsy, terrible stands and while they worked, most simply fell over and broke. This light kit from Lowel was a great surprise. They produce plenty of light for my interviewing needs and seem very well built. Stands are still a little on the light side but much better than what I've used in the past. Lights do get hot but knew that going in. Overall I'm very satisfied.

This was a big step up from my previous light kit. It has great output, and comes with a sturdy case and many options to manipulate the light. Make sure and wear gloves! These lights get very hot!

I use this kit for video interviews mainly and for accent lighting when I need it. I love how portable it is and how easy it is to setup and break down. It makes working in small places a breeze. I shoot alot of interviews in offices and your limited to space, this lighting kits is perfect for run and gun light set ups. My only complaint is how hot the lights get, but its not surprising. Be sure to let them cool before packing them back up. Ive melted a few bags before! Try and get the better bulbs if you can. They are better built and last longer in my opinion .

From worklights to Prolights

This is for those who use worklights and are looking to upgradeI did a bunch of instructional salsa videos with worklights and I got really good with them. They were cheap and could get away with a decent pictures. One of my friends told me: next step getting a pro kit.. I asked him why..cause for me halogens at $ or halogen at $ is still the same halogen so basically the same light...on top of it I would see: you wont go with worklights at a clients place... I didnt need to go to clients so that argument didnt carry any weight for me... My friend told me I would have more control... so I started my research.. read and looked at a bunch of forums and youtube vids... finally I decided to buy this kit... and he was right! here are the main pros to buy a kit for those who use worklights1. More control on the look and feel cause work lights throw their beam everywhere2. More control on the direction (almost the same as 1)3.So much light in such a little great carrying case4.Fast set up5.Impressed some of my interview peeps... they felt important... this is not a small thing;)6.the kit is more solid than it looks.. built to last7.Diffusion are a step up

This is a really nice kit. When I got it I couldn't believe that everything fit in that bag but it certainly does and is not heavy at all. Assembling the equipment is fast and easy. Although I haven't had any problems with the stands, the built feels a little fragile.A great, versatile bundle for basic lighting setups at a fair price.

B&H gave me the best deal on my DV Creator 1 Kit, I looked everywhere on the internet and buying it from B&H was $$cheaper than anywhere else, plus free shipping. I am so happy about this, because I am a film student and Indie filmmaker and money runs tight, I was required to buy this kit for my lighting class this semester and I didn't know how I could afford it, but with the lower price it made it a little easier, because $$is $$! Also the product was delivered on the exact day specified. Since I received my kit and put the lights together, the instructions have been easy to use, the lights make for great lighting and being able to follow all the specifics in my assignments. I definitely recommend to invest in this kit, I have several other kits, but this one is so much easier to manipulate the look you are wanting for a scene. I am a very happy customer. Thank you B&H!

I do a lot of international traveling with lights and would like to invest in some cords that directly plug into outlets instead of using a converter/adapter since sometimes they are too cumbersome in some foreign outlets. Am I assuming correctly that this corresponding product would solve that issue (at least for Euro countries in this case)?

Although it's just an illustration of the product, the connection on the left does look similar to the one that connects to the back of the lights so it should work. I'm by no means an expert though, if you need a second opinion I would call B&H and speak with someone in their lighting department, they're very knowledgeable.

Can these be battery operated?
Asked by: Anonymous
The only continuous tungsten lighting that you would find run off batteries would be camera-top lights, and even they would only run off something like a Sony V-mount. As another stated you'll have to go with LED if you want that kind of feature.

The Tota umbrella is listed in Product Highlights and mentioned in the Overview but not in the In The Box tab. Does it in fact come with the creator kit, or would i need to buy one separately?

Yes, I received one in mine.
