Lowel Pro-Light overview

  • 1Description

Featuring a high intensity reflector and prismatic glass, the Lowel Pro-light Focusing Flood Light can be used as a low-level key or accent light, fill light or backlight. In addition to a wide variety of customizing accessories, it can be powered by battery sources when AC power is not available.

  • Lowel ViP Pro-Light (120 VAC / 12 VDC)

With its high intensity #2 reflector and prismatic glass, the tiny, focusable Lowel ViP Pro-Light is more efficient than a mini-Fresnel of equal wattage, yet it gives an exquisite, even light, with Fresnel-like shadow quality. It can be used as a low-level key or accent light, fill light (with diffusion), or backlight.

In addition to a wide variety of customizing accessories, its versatility can be increased by switching its 12' AC cable for an optional DC adapter cable and swapping its bulb for use as a camera-top fixture. Other bulbs, and plug adapters are available. When fitted with an FVL 200 watt bulb (available separately), the Pro-Light will emit a beam of 23 footcandles at full flood and 143 footcandles at full spot from a distance of 10' (3 m). With a GCC 100W lamp at 12 VDC: 12 footcandles in flood and 58 footcandles in spot.

    Focus Flood
  • Change the setting from "spot" to "flood" position or anywhere in between by turning knob on side of unit.
  • Has a focus range of 6:1 with optional lamp.
  • Easy Access
The front end comes off for easy access for no-tool lamp change.
    Multi-Use Source
Substituting the prismatic glass for the optional clear glass turns light into a non-focusing, high intensity spotlight, for long throw situations.
    AC/DC

Lowel Pro-Light reviews

Pro-light Focusing Flood Light is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great light but bulbs blow too easy Used for wedding cinematography and the quality of light is wonderful plus there are a wide variety of accessories and attachments that make modifying the light a breeze. However they are not tough at all. Any kind of tap or shake while in use always blows the bulb. I’ve probably run through 20 bulbs in 2017 and already blown one for 2018. I only have two heads, I plan on upgrading to a tougher light and using these as backup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A wonderful light For many years, this small light has been a go-to for accent lights on my sets, kicker or back lights on talent, and a general workhorse instrument. The only drawback about them is that they use a standard plastic crimped wire strain relief, that with enough hours of use and heat, come out of the unit. The can be a bit problematic to get a new one installed. Yet, I have something like 2 dozen of these in various kits and operation in the studio. Good spot to flood focusing. The only thing I wish is manufacture's didn't always try to reinvent the wheel so much with LED lighting. These lights run 100-250 watts, and would be a great upgrade to LED lighting with either using the same case, or similar design with a fan as needed, but keeping the focus ability and small form factor.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Light only worked for 5 minutes I bought this light based on a recommendation from a peer videographer. Tested it at home before my event, set up the light at the event, and it worked for the first five minutes before going out. I tested the outlets, fuse, examined all parts of the cord, disassembled, checked the bulb, etc. Could not get to turn on. Maybe I just got a dud, but it was a huge frustration to have it work in testing then die exactly when I needed it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lightbulbs blow out too quickly Very annoying light by Lowel. I used them for two years, and I do not know why. By the end of my time with them, I wanted to throw them off a high building and watch them smash into bits. These lights are not reliable. Buy something better. You will be sinking so much money into buying bulbs, and they will blink out when you need them most. BUYER BEWARE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Hair Light This is a great light for studio or on the go use. We use it at reception venues when filming and it is a great hair light. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great focusing light For the price a great addition to any lighting kit. Nice power for the size, and great to have the focusing ability of much more expensive fixtures.
