The CB-38 FTR Ball Head with QRP-50 Quick Release System from FLM is an aluminum alloy ball head that can support 55.1 lb. It has three locking knobs; one controls 360° panning and one controls the amount of friction and movement of the ball. The third knob controls FLM's patented tilt function. When the tilt function is activated, the ball moves along a straight line and acts as a tilt head. When the function is deactivated, you have full control over the movement of the ball in all directions.

The quick release system includes a dovetail clamp and plate with laser engraved scale numbers on the side so you can adjust your camera fore and aft by 25mm. The plate clicks into the base from above and is secured by the locking pin so you can adjust the base and then lock it into place by turning the locking lever. This prevents your camera from sliding out of the clamp while you're adjusting the camera's location. All parts are sourced and manufactured in Germany.

While panning, the PRS system locks your head every 15° and makes an audible click.
A quick locking mechanism at 0° allows you to quickly attach or remove the head to or from your tripod.
A notch in the head allows the camera to tilt 90° to shoot in portrait orientation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Research, know your needs and purchase the best. A couple of month ago I decided to buy a new tripod head. I knew what my needs were and I did research on B&H reading reviews and spec on several manufactures. The CB-38 FTR ball head system by FLM became my top choice. Once I received the ball head I was so impressed with it that before I mounted it on the tripod I took it into the studio and did a product shoot of it. I've been able to use it in the studio and last weekend I tested it in temperatures of -8 degrees taking landscape photo in the desert. This head is not only beautiful it functioned flawlessly and smooth as silk even in the below zero temperatures. Choose well and buy once.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beatiful Precision I use my FLM CB-38 FTR with QRB-50 II on a Gitzo Traveler GT2542T. Mostly for long exposure landscape photography, and low light photography. The engineering, fit and finish, ergonomics and smooth operation are first class. The controls require about 5 minutes to master. Not only is this FLM ball head a joy to use, but it also looks beautiful. Bravo FLM!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Happy. I use this for heavier lenses. Some of the reviews say that it takes some time to get used to he adjustment nobs and ring, but I experienced no problems using them. There was a very minor amount of travelling when locking the system in place. The clamp and plate are very stable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from B&H misleads I bought my Leica S2P and 120MM Summarit from B&H. When I wanted an L bracket, only a competitor offered one. It had an Arca Swiss quick release. I looked at FLM, because Leica began selling two styles. In B&H's description for the FLM CB-38 FTR they say: The quick release system includes an Arca-type clamp and plate. I took that to be compatible with the L bracket. It was not.
