The Legendary M400 Sample CD from Ilio delivers the original sounds of the Mellotron M400. Harking back to and evoking images of the 60's, the library contains the original sound set that was available on each key of the instrument.
The Mellotron was, in effect, the world's first sample-playback keyboard. The instrument contained a bank of magnetic tape strips, each with a prerecorded sound and with approximately eight seconds of playing time that ran over playback heads. Depressing a particular key enables the performer to play the pre-recorded sound assigned to that key.
Today, there is still a great interest in the instrument as witnessed by the variety of artist who are using these sounds.
