Kodak T-Max 100 overview

  • 1Description

Kodak's Professional T-Max 100 is a medium-speed panchromatic black and white negative film characterized by an extremely fine grain structure along with high sharpness and resolving power. By utilizing a T-GRAIN emulsion, the grain pattern resembles a patterned, tabular form that maintains effective film speed while reducing the appearance of grain during enlarging or scanning. This film has a nominal sensitivity of ISO 100/21° and also features a wide exposure latitude, broad tonal range, and responds well to push development and zone system development changes.

In addition to processing as a negative in standard black and white chemistry, T-Max 100 is also suitable for reversal processing using the T-Max 100 Direct Positive Film Developing Outfit for creating copy and duplicate work.

This item is one 24-exposure roll of 35mm film.

Kodak T-Max 100 reviews

Professional T-Max 100 Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 24 Exposures) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 183.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always happy with results I have been taking black and white photos and processing myself for about fifty years. Since they stopped producing plus x film I switched over to T-max 100 and have been happy, especially since I started scanning negatives instead of enlarging and printing photos. The grain is such that it can do justice to sharp lenses. Shadow detail can be pulled out of the picture satisfactorily.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It takes some getting used to I've been using Ilford FP4+, and I've used Kodak Plus-X in the past, so I had my benchmark when I bought a dozen rolls of T-Max 100. My surprise was the lack of density in the first rolls I developed. I followed Kodak's guidelines, but the negatives were thin and had a very blah tonal range. When printing, I had to stop down and use a higher contrast filter. The grain is very nice, and after I make the necessary adjustments I get lovely prints. But it doesn't behave quite like other film.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great black and white film. This is my favorite black and white film. It works great in a wide range of lighting conditions and it can be pushed further than other films I've tried. Very smooth, very good contrast, and very good detail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tmax 100 the Gold Standard Helpful characterisitics about this film: The grain: pretty fine, not the finest but good. Scan ability: What makes this film so valuable is that it scans FLAT. The slight shortcoming of it medium grain structure is made up for by how flat it scans. One last thing: although a person may think that Tmax films + Tmax developer is a match made in heaven, it isn't for grain structure. I would characterize it as moderately fine-grain film/developer combo; however, for those of you that do not care about grain, the tmax film + tmax developer combo is out of this world for tonal reproduction. The finest grain developer for tmax, sadly, was Microdol-X, which has been discontinued.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kodak T-Max Film I photograph people, and nothing is quite as beautiful as the way t-max films capture people. The grain is so tight, it is never a distraction form the subject. I am even able to hand hold with it at less than a 60th of a second. I highly recommend Kodak t-max films!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For BW Photography (Film) Class I've used the T-Max BW Films and always have had consistent output from them for my Photography Classes. The T-Max 100 is what I needed to be able to experiment with Reversal Developing during the class. With a very old (but still definitely working well) StereoScopic 35mm camera in hand (as well as my current 35mm SLR outfit), I was very pleasantly surprised by the results from the Reversal processing -- clear, consistent .. and I was able to use some of the supplies I had for the old stereoscopic camera to be able to use its viewers successfully. I'd recommend this as the film to use when your Professor wants to introduce Reversal Processing into your classroom experience.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fine grain and great for long exposures Typically I shoot with TRI-X film but I am doing some landscape work now and I need a fine grain film. Plus doing long exposures this 100 ISO film is actually faster than TRI-X 400 when you factor in reciprocity. A win win for Tmax 100 In those uses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For great photos. Super impressed at the t-grain sharpness in this film. If you have enough light and/or a fast enough lens to use the 100 speed, do it. The grain is more than twice as fine as the 400 speed film, so you can get much smoother enlargements. 11x14 comes out incredible. I haven't pushed to 16x20 yet but I'm confident I could do it with the right lens on my camera. Bottom line: it's one of the best looking films you can get at this price point. Economical, and super fine. Definitely recommend.
