Battery for Studiomax AC/DC Monolights is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unreliable It's great when it decides to work. I purchased this unit to power my Studio max III on location. I had to return the first unit because it malfunctioned. Photogenic sent me a new unit in 2 weeks. The 'new' unit worked fine for a while, but after a few months it began malfunctioning on and off. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't ? Fed up, I ordered a Quantum turbo and have never been happier. The Quantum is smaller, but provides 2-3 times as many pops. It is infinitely more reliable than the photogenic even on a low charge. Unfortunately, it is 3 times as expensive. Another option would be the Alien Bees Mini vagabond. I say save your money and pass on this unit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for I wish I could say this totally met my needs for less than half the price as the Quantum. Unfortunately I would have to say it was adequate for a while and now I need to make another buying decision. I have owned this for two and a half years have used it for about 35 times on weddings and outdoor shoots. I use it to power a photogenic Studiomax 320B almost always at full power. I get 15 to 20 flashes and then I end up waiting for the thing to recharge before I can shoot again. Yesterday it only worked for 6 flashes and then it just would not give be a complete ready charge and the flash would not fire. The fuel gauge reads full but it won't flash. I took the thing out of the case and noticed that the removable battery cell was leaking a little bit. The nice thing is that there is a replacement battery and it is very reasonable. So I will probably go with that. I haven't worked with the Quantum so i don't know if it is any better but I would say if you are a pro you most likely won't want to be waiting on the equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked very nice as I expected it would. Makes shooting on location easy. I also use the White Lightning Vagabond bag and they both work great...but the Photogenic system is lighter and more suitable for smaller spaces

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Portability I use this product for outside portraits with the Photogenic light kit. Great for 1-2 hour shoots. Sturdy and easy to carry.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality control Theunit initially failed within a few weeks and I was sent a replacement by Photogenic. When it worked, it worked well. However, the unit no longer charges the battery (I have tried a new battery). I have only used the unit about 25 times. Then all of a sudden it stopped charging the battery. Photogenic does not make the unit. Photogenic told me the unit is imported and not repairable. A waste of money to buy this unit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Works great for a short time The first unit failed within warranty and Photogenic sent me a new one. The new one worked for awhile and now it will work if the battery is charged, but it will not charge the battery; I bought two new batteries and the unit worked until the battery charge was depleted. Photogenic does not manufacture these (Photogenic told me this) and therefore said it cannot be repaired.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Good I followed all instructions exactly, but it would not charge my monolights. I tested 3 more cords and 2 lights but still no luck. The manufacturer told me to use the cords that came with my lights, because the one that came with the battery was known to be faulty. Obviously, I already tried this, but went through it again, to be sure. Then he said it was the cord connector in my monolights, but that didn't make sense, because I tested more than one light. He didn't know what to tell me and I was on my own. I called local stores, but they said they didn't carry this battery pack because it was too unreliable. I called B&H and was told by a sales person they had never heard of a problem with this pack. However, the salesperson knew immediately what that the problem was the pack connector. Hmmm. They're shipping me a new one, but so far it's been a real hassle, and my confidence in the product and the salesperson is not good. We'll see how it goes, and perhaps I can write a better review, down the road.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent when used with Nikon flash This is a great alternative to the Quantum! We use it every weekend with SB-800 and it works flawlessly. However, when powering up, be sure to turn on the battery then turn on the flash or else it will not function correctly.
