Olympus EX-25 overview

  • 1Description

The EX-25 Extension Tube from Olympus is a 25mm extension tube to be placed between the lens and the camera body to allow a greater range of magnification for close-up photographs. It is designed exclusively for use with Olympus Four Thirds single-lens-reflex digital cameras.

By moving the lens 25mm farther away from the camera's sensor, the minimum focusing distance is shortened allowing for closer shooting distances. This is ideal for shooting macro photographs of butterflies, flowers or product items.

    Olympus EX-25 reviews

EX-25 Extension Tube is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from The EX-25 is worth it. I bought my ex-25 about a year ago. I have been very pleased with it. When hooked up between the 14-45mm zuiko lens, the focus range is minimal. The focus range is between 1 - 4 inches. However, when using the 40-150mm lens the focus range is between 6 inches and approx 3 feet. I also find using the Aperture (or other manual modes) achieves much crisper results. I have not tried the EX-25 with a macro lens, yet.Definitely a good cheap alternative.I also recommend reading the EX-25 pdf on the olympus site for more details about capabilities.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from macro - necessity use this with my Olympus 50mm macro lens for which it was designed for, so it enables you to use all the auto settings if you choose to do so. works as advertised, no light lose or distortions at the edges. a well made accessory, and worth the money if you're into any phase of close up photography. the only draw back i've encountered is that under certain low light conditions you will need to have a ring light flash or some other sorce of extra light...a tripod of some kind is also a must.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for macro I was very pleased to discover the quality of the Ex-25: the build quality is perfect. As owner of a E-510 and 40-150 (kit lens) it opens the world of macro and i enjoy it very much. In good light condition i can even use it in auto-focus mode. I really recommend it. Next buy another lens (50-200) that I certainly will use with the Ex-25.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CLOSE UP DREAMER This little gem is great to have if you want the BIGGEST flowers/ insects/ small subject matter to be bigger than life. I use this so far with my Olympus 50-200mm f/2.8-3.5 lens. And it's wonderful. No issues. Just put it right between the camera body and the lens and you're set. I noticed it requires my long lens to be out all the way for me to get a focus on anything. It's very limiting of depth of field (but in macro, that's a GOOD THING) and part of the fun. With that lens, you have to be at least 3' away to see sharp subjects- but they will FILL your viewfinder- so be ready.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Get up close & personal! I've tried this out w/ my E-620's kit lenses (14-42 mm & 40-150 mm) and w/ my Oly 18-180. With the 14-42 mm, at the 42 mm end, you have to be right on top of the subject to focus at all. With the 40-150 and the 18-180, the focusing distances still seem to be considerably less than indicated on the Oly website. Unless you have extremely steady hands or exceptional lighting, a tri-/mono-pod is essential. The depth of field is exceptionally tight with both lenses. The detail and image quality at the center of the dof is astonishing, and blurs out rapidly fore & aft. The color rendition seems excellent, although I haven't yet had sufficient experience to know for sure. I'm happy I have it, but am wondering if I might have done better overall by getting one of Oly's dedicated macro lenses...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Macro photography on a budget Bought the tube extension for macro photography. Works equally well with a 14-45mm and a 40-150 zoom lens. Manual focusing is required. It is difficult to obtain exact focus through the viewfinder. The 7x or 10x magnification available on the liveview lcd display have provided best results. The tube extension is not as easy to use as I had hoped. It does provide good macro capability at a budget price. I may opt for a dedicated macro lens in the future

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2nd Review after purchase of 50mm Brings you in close as close. A tiny ant filled over 1/3 of the image. Must be very close to focus. approx 3 inches. No noise when added to the 50mm.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great piece of engineering This extension tube works very well with my 12-62 and 50-200 lenses. Working distance is very short, but magnification about right for a range of subjects. Very well made, like all Olympus products, but a bit pricey seeing as there is no glass in this product.
