    Wimberley SW-100 reviews

Extra Screw (1/4-20") is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from works fine I bought the screws for spares. They work fine. Not much different than what you can buy in the hardware store, except for the thread that's been removed. I'm not real sure that they're a good value. I have normal screws that were cheaper, if I remember correctly, and are the same length. I bought these hoping that they'd be slightly shorter than the standard hardware store screws. They're the same size. If you want/need screws that have the thread area removed near the head, these are what you want. If you don't need that, there are cheaper alternatives that work just as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I woul buy this product again and again This screw is very easy to screw in and off. It keeps the handle well.it doesn't wear with time. The ideal selection of metals causes that the screw doesn't rust, the thrash doesn't spoil even if ferquently used. I recommend the screw since it is better than any other on the market. This screw is made of the great selection of metals. It is easy to keep while screwing. It can be screwed till the end and it doesn't damage the two linked surfaces. It doesn't come loose

Rated 1 out of 5 by from poor finish / tolerance Wanted to mount a Quick release plate to a Monfrotto rail. so I could adjust the plate on the rail. Where the Screw was machined down to allow the plate to slide was not machined far enough the threads were still showing and would not allow the plate to slide.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time Saver I wasted a couple of hours trying to find this at my local hardware stores. The common 1/4-20 screw has a thread that goes all the way to the very top of the shaft which makes it incompatible with camera gear. This screw has a thread-free area which allows it to work with various quick mounting plates.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs... to have the undercut of the threads made to the root diameter of the thread which is .201 inch. As this is out of the box you can see the remaining threads in the undercut. What this means? I purchased this as an alternative to spending $ for the custom machined screw that goes in the base of my Arca-Swiss L Bracket, and an additional $ for shipping. This is obviously a button head stainless 1/4-20 x 1/2 inch screw with an undercut, and costs a fraction of the price for the AS unit. when I screwed it in the thread stayed engaged and was a little over .03 inches longer and the worst thing to do is to tighten a screw too deep into the bottom of your $3k camera.so I got a lock nut and screwed this in exposing the Undercut section and put the nut in a drill press. I then used the side of a mill file and while the drill press spun filed down the undercut until the thread root was gone. I then used a belt sander to reduce the overall length to match the AS screw. Ten minutes and I was done.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unuseable for me I got this to replace a lost Arca style plate screw. As shown in the photo, it is a regular 1/4-20 screw/bolt with the threads near the head machined down. On the screw that I received, the threads were not machined down smooth and I was unable to get it into the plate's slot. It may work fine for the Wimberly brand products, but it was unuseable for the plate I have (unknown brand).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a screw designed for a Wimberley It's a screw designed for the Wimberley mounting plates. It does what it's designed to do. Not much else to say about it really. It bought a few to have as spares in the event I somehow lose one. If you buy a Wimberley plate, get a couple of these just for belt-and-suspenders reassurance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NECESSARY FOR SOME LENSES The Wimberley Extra Screw is necessary if your lens has more than one mounting screw hole on it's collar. Using 2 screws will insure that the lens does not shift on the Quick Release Plate during use. It is well made, like all Wimberley products.
