    Botero C00157 Reviews

#001 CollapsibleBackground (5x7') (Turquoise Blue, Green) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 424.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very practical, good quality The Botero collapsible background is a great deal. Compared to other collapsible backgrounds in the market, it has a great price. Despite the reasonable price, the background is well made, and very convenient. It would take me quite a long time to set up a standard muslin backdrop, but the Bolero sets up in literally seconds, and it is virtually wrinkle free. It collapses quite quickly too, and is very portable. I am very tempted to order different colors and patterns to add to my photographer's toolbox. Note that it may not be mentioned in the product description, but the backside is essentially black, so it can be used as a background as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Collapsible and Mobile Background! This is a great background that I've used for multiple portrait shoots. I would probably advise that you get used to collapsing this backdrop before you bring it out on shoots because it takes some getting used to. Oh, and you can easily alter the color of the backdrop a bit by using a colored gel filter. The one thing about this backdrop is that if you use a hard flash, you might be able to see through the backdrop. I just wish the backdrop was a bit thicker so light wouldn't leak through it. When you're using a mobile backdrop stand, you might see the pole behind it. But all in all, this is a great backdrop that I would recommend to anyone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what I expected The image that shows what the background will look like does not in any way represent what you will get. The actual background is 70% lighter in over all saturation. I got it to use for interviews for video projects. Maybe if you are a still photog the background will become darker in the picture. I'm not sure, but for video this background is no where near dark enough and the example above does in no way show what it actually looks like. You can make the argument that my computer monitor might be off in color, but I have a brand new MacBook Pro and all of the colors represented have been true with every things else I have purchased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works even better than I hoped I bought this to replace a large muslin backdrop that I use all the time. As the shooting spaces have gotten smaller, the space for a backdrop and poles has gotten more cramped as well. This is an excellent solution. One light stand, and a clamp and you're up and ready to go. Big difference. One side is light gray, the other a darker gray. This gives me all the range of gray I need. If I want a lighter background then I just move the BG closer to my light. I saw some complaints re: twisting it up to restore to its bag. I have found that if you step on one end and twist, it folds up easily. Simply put, nothing bad to say about this at all.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hard to Fold, Not as shown in photo I purchased this product with the hope that I would be able to use it when I do on location studio sessions. Unfortunately the background does not fold easily at all. It pops back open as soon as you try to twist to close it. It's clumsy and not as rigid as one would hope. I expected browns and golds as shown in the photo, but it is more of a rainbow color, with blues, pinks and purples added in. I wouldn't buy this again. I wish this product came in a smaller size to make it more portable. Would not be a problem if you left it open in your studio all the time. Needs a stand to keep from tipping as well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Should have spent a bit more I bought the backdrop to use with a bit of location portrait work. I was tossing between this backdrop and the Lastolite (which was more than double the price) however was told there was no difference between the two. When I received the backdrop I noticed the grey was a fair bit off the colour as pictured on my calibrated monitor (though I did note where it did say colours differ from monitor to monitor) and there were some creases in the backdrop that I don't think would come out and would definitely show up in photos. Wish I had spent a bit more and got the Lastolite version that is crease free. I hope my friend who bought this product too after my recommendation prior to receiving the product doesn't feel the same way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for portraits I'm a photographer for a foundation that takes complimentary portraits at hospitals for families who's baby is stillborn, and I needed a background that I could take with me and use to make it look like all the pictures were not taken in a hospital room. This is large enough when unfolded to fit the parents and baby in the shot, but folds up nicely so I can carry it around. Exactly what I was looking for, and it also works well for classic head shots.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not really dark grey I needed a grey portable background for a conference and exec headshots. It is nice to have a small background to take on location. I only wish this one was thicker. It has very thin material and is see through if not placed close to a wall. Also, the color is not as dark of a grey as I was hoping. I can adjust my camera settings and placement of clients to make it appear darker, but I would have preferred it being as described. It will work for my immediate purpose but I will continue my search. The next question asks if I would recommend to a friend...not leaving any room for comment. I would not but, it really depends on their need for a lightweight portable background.

    question

I ordered the solid gray, but am returning because of defective zipper on case. Regardless, I was not happy with the color as it appeared MUCH lighter than the sample. So here's my question--which of the Botero backgrounds is the darkest gray--ie a slate gray--ie almost black? Solid Gray, Dark Gray, etc?
    Asked by: Linda E.
Linda - The Botero collapsable background in dark grey , product #023 will probably be darker than the solid gray you bought. I use the mottled background that contains the dark grey as well as other lighter tones and the dark gray is quite dark. A word of caution - these are thin fabrics, so your lighting set up is important to how the background will look. I had mine in front of a window for some head shots for a client and the light came right through the fabric. It was a good reminder that photography is about the light!

    question

Are there Velcro straps on the sides to attach to a light stand?
    Asked by: Linda E.
There are no straps at all. The Lastolite has straps but there are not velcro.

    question

Can this be use horizontal to fit a family of 4?
    Asked by: DELSY
Above what others have said, you'd need to rest the background on a horizontal surface near waist height or use 2 light stands with clamps to hold the background vertical. If the family are different heights, then sitting position for adults and lap sitting or standing for children or some combination to minimize height differences for torso shots. Since the backdrop have 'rounded' corners, you really have to watch the cropping & edges. Good luck.

    question

Is this solid gray? The reviews seem like it is mottled.
    Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, the lighter gray side is lightly mottled, while the darker side seems solid

    question

My background arrived and has some wrinkles even after being unfolded for several days. On the one hand, I think they add a little character. But if my client wants/expects a smooth background, can this be ironed/steamed successfully? (DOF won't help; in this case I'm stuck in a smallish board room without the opportunity to put much distance between subject and the background).
    Asked by: Mark Johnson
Im not sure about using an iron (it may melt/burn the material) A steamer will work, but the water from the steam will stain it. I ran into this problem too. I used a steamer and had an obvious stain in the area I applied the steamer. To fix the stain I opened the background up and hosed it entirely down in the shower and let it air dry before collapsing.
