    Onkyo DXC390 reviews

    DXC390 - 6-disc CD Carousel Changer is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 124.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from A mystery -- About two years after purchase, and despite very little use during that time, the unit began turning itself on. No kidding: turning itself on.Turn it off; five minutes later it has turned itself on again. And not unique: reviews of the unit on @ include reports of the same weird problem: the unit turning itself on.As for Onkyo's response to email query about the problem: non-existent. Phone support: requires the patience of the dead.Don't buy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A nice upgrade for an old sound system We bought this unit to replace the original CD player in our eighteen year old Onkyo sound system. The only problem with the old player was it wouldn't play MP3 and some home-recorded CDs. Hooked up easily, has great sound and plays anything we feed it. We are real Onkyo fans and this unit has done nothing to change that!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use Our Technics 60 CD changer would no longer select the CDs from the rack after 18 years of service and we could not believe that stereo stores had disappeared in this area when we started looking for a replacement. This unit is easy to use, an idiot can connect it, sound is clear, crisp, great lows. Combined with an Onkyo amp/tuner it is a nice addition and we are thankful to have found it. Having 6 in the player is sufficient as we had a holiday party and the Christmas music lasted for over 6 hours without repeating or changes. Size is not an issue, and it is no heavier than the one it replaced. Thank you B&H for recognizing the need and making these conventional stereo components available - digital such as MP3, I Pod just aren't there yet for sound reproduction.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BIG Deal The Onkyo brand has always been a favorite of mine. And I have recommended Onkyo components to friends numerous times. My recommendations were appreciated; all my friends expressed satisfaction with their Onkyo products (no, I do not work for Onkyo). I feel Onkyo products have always given the consumer the best combination of price and quality. The Onkyo DXC-390 6 CD carousel follows in this Onkyo tradition. It's easy to use and produces a typically great Onkyo sound. And because it holds 6 CDs, its tray had to be larger. And that is my only problem with this changer...it takes up too much space!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best price - anywhere! This cd changer is great! The overall sound in this price category can't be beat. It is getting harder and harder to find quailty audio components that aren't already wrapped up in a video/home entertainment package. This Onkyo really delivers. Easy to set-up, easy to operate, the DXC390 has all of the features I was looking for in an inexpensive cd changer unit. I highly recommend this model to anyone looking for great sound at a great price. That B&H has this priced well below any competitor was an added bonus. I placed the order on a Sunday and had the the unit by Thursday - freight free! Great service at a great price. Thank you Onkyo and B&H!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NEVER buy a DXC390 When I plugged the ONKYO DX390 6 disc CD changer in and turned it on, the display said, MECH ERROR. There were no instructions in the installation guide regarding the error message. I called the 800 number, which said that they operated 24/7 for new installations. When I got tired of waiting in the queue, I called back and left voice mail. On each of the next two days, I left voice mails explaining the problem and asking for a return call. Seven days after trying to install the CD changer, I have yet to receive a callback. When I checked the Internet, I saw that others had the same problem with the error message and were told to take it to a repair facility. That's ridiculous. I called B&H and with no hassle was able to return the machine.Another problem with the ONKYO DX390 is that it's too long. It does not fit on any normal shelve, so it sticks out. That's a poor design issue.Overall, I would NOT recommend anyone buying an ONKYO because of the error message, but as important, the incredibly poor customer service.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product The Onkyo DXC390 6-Disc CD player produces a great sound. I am glad I bought it and would recommend it to friends and family. I have it connected via RCA connectors. But a couple of short comings. When loading or changing discs it does make a clunking sound, and it takes a few more seconds than I expect before I hear the music play. Also, perhaps because the controls are very different than from my prior CD player, I find the controls are not intuitive. After two weeks I still need to get the manual out if I do anything other than tell it to play a disc. But the sound is good enough that I'm glad I bought it. I have other Onkyo products which is why I bought this one. They all have served me well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Flawed Player A decent CD changer for non-audiophile setups--but seriously flawed! Onkyo seems not to care at all for the environment. After being appalled by the sheer amount of styrofoam in Onkyo's box, I called the company only to find (after waiting on hold) that they have no kind whatsoever of an environmental policy. Aside from that serious problem, this CD player seems fine, looks pretty good, and has a useful disc illumination light. Try Pioneer, Cambridge, Marantz for environmentally concious, good-sounding budget CD players. Also remember to look at the dimensions before buying-- this thing is really deep.
