Behringer B-5 overview

  • 1Description

The B-5 Gold-Sputtered Diaphragm Studio Condenser Microphone from Behringer features a true condenser 18mm single diaphragm with two interchangeable capsules that offer cardioid and omnidirectional polar patterns. This flexible design results in high quality signal reproduction when capturing both vocals and instruments. The cardioid capsule provides maximum rejection of off-axis audio and ambiance, minimizing room noise and feedback. The omni-directional capsule provides a generous pick up with uniform frequency response throughout. There is a -10 dB Pad switch and low frequency roll-off for suppressing low frequency hum, rumble, and wind noise. The B-5 is suitable for capturing vocals, drum overheads, guitars, and similar instruments. The package includes a microphone stand adapter, a windscreen, and a carrying case.

    Behringer B-5 reviews

B-5 Gold-Sputtered Diaphragm Studio Condenser Microphone with 2 Interchangeable Capsules is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable Good Quality Microphone I'm a filmmaker on a budget and was looking for microphones for a project involving a choral group. After much reading, I narrowed my choices down to the Rode NT-5 stereo pair, the Avatone Pro CK-1, the Golden Age Project FC-4, the MXL 603/604, and the Behringer B-5. I was looking for a poor man's Neumann KM-184, and most of the products listed are produced, at low cost, in China. Only the Rodes are made in Australia, and were slightly more expensive than I wanted to pay. I chose the Behringer B-5 after reading reviews, but also based on my own expectation of better quality control and oversight from Behringer (which now owns and operates its own facility in China). The B-5 has proved already to suit my needs perfectly. The microphone is well-built and finished, and the sound quality is excellent, with very low self-noise and a true, uncolored response. I tested it as a dialog microphone and found the results to be excellent. Bear in mind, this was with the cardioid capsule, which is not as isolating as a hypercardioid capsule, but perfect for my documentary dialog work. If Behringer would offer the B-5 with a hypercardioid capsule, it would be an ideal budget boom pole dialogue microphone. As is, the B-5 is giving me very good results.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Natural sound This small pencil microphone is great for indoor recording and records a good, natural sound especially suited for voices.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful Mic We use many of these for choirs and instruments. They are versatile, cover the low frequency range well, and with the =changeable capsules have a lot of versatility.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greeat Mic at any price This is the only competition I've found for the AKG C451E under a thousand dollars. With it's smooth high end, it's at home with an acoustic guitar or a grand piano.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A surprising mic once modified Typical Behringer stuff stock. Inconsistent, and cheap. Once this mic is properly modified, it comes very close to the sound of a Neumann KM84.
