Wimberley M-8 Overview

Wimberley has a system of flash bracket components that are modular, versatile and easily stowed in a small space when not in use.  Known as the Shape-Shifter Modular Flash Bracket System, the components connect without tools.  None of the combinations slip, twist or creep-even during intense action.  They're integrated with the venerable Arca-Swiss type quick release system, now dominant as the industry standard for macro and telephoto shooting.

The Perpendicular Plate gives you a dovetail plate that is perpendicular to the original direction of your camera body plate.

Since the dovetail on most camera body plates is oriented perpendicular to the axis of the lens, adding the perpendicular plate gives you a dovetail plate that is parallel to the axis of the lens.  This is useful for attaching telephoto and macro brackets to your camera body.  The Perpendicular Plate can also be used to make small forward and backward adjustments for macro photography.

No Tools, No Creep, No Lost Parts
Wimberley's modular Shape Shifter system needs no tools for use.  Components quickly and easily connect to one another, with a design that makes creep or twist during use simply impossible.  All knobs are captive, and cannot fall off accidentally from being unscrewed too far.

Bought this to use with my Wimberley Head for lenses without a foot. Previous reviews commented on the quality and beauty of this little piece of metal. The fit and finish are top notch.

Solves a problem

Fitting a Z 70-200mm S lens with RRS LCF-21 Replacement Lens Foot mounted on Z 9 with RRS Modular L-Plate into Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II would not balance properly. RRS simply blamed the shape of the Z 9 and offered no suggestion, although the LCF-21 might have been designed to be slightly taller which would seem to be really right and would have avoided the problem. Wimberley suggested this Perpendicular Plate be fit on the L-Plate and then into the WH-200. Balances fine, but be mindful not to stress the lens mount as the lens is not otherwise supported. This is also excellent for smaller lenses with the Z 9 on the WH-200.

question

how do you place this on your sun sniper strap?
Asked by: Les B.
The Wimberley Module 8 M-8 Perpendicular Plate is not designed for use with the Sun-Sniper Camera Strap. It is designed for use with an Arca-type quick release plate mounted to the tripod mount on your camera, and gives you perpendicular movement of the camera when mounted on a gimbal or ball head. As it would be connected to the camera's tripod socket, it cannot be used simultaneously with the Sun-Sniper Camera Strap.
