Yes it can depending on what you need it to do.
It can start/stop record and control focus but it will not be able to zoom in or out unless you are using one of Canon's Cine-zoom lenses that feature a motorized zoom ring.

If you get two adapter cables, yes, you can use the VZRock or any LANC zoom control to control the zoom on the AX-100. While this is awkward, it is the one workaround available.
