ART TPS II Overview

The TPS II is a two-channel high performance preamplifier coupled with V3 (Variable Valve Voicing) functionality. It also features variable input impedance that allows users to dial in and match any microphone type from large condensers to ribbon microphones.

The V3 feature provides optimized reference points to begin the recording process for guitars, bass guitars, synthesizers, acoustic instruments, percussion, vocals and more. The TPS II displays level monitoring with two analog meters as well as two newly added input monitoring LED meters.

The TPS II can accept +20dB peaks while maintaining over 120dB dynamic range, quiet performance and incredibly low distortion. The OPL (Output Protection Limiting) feature is used to control overshoots and normalize levels before clipping occurs. The unit also functions as a direct box, with impedance matching and preamplification for instrument or line-level sources. High-Z instruments or balanced microphone signals can be input through front and rear panel jacks.

Good things: - You can boost up at least 20Db for your mic. You can select various tube options. I found out that the flat option is the least noisy one. - It has XLR in/out for a 1U unit. Nice looking unit. Not so good: - Big noise injected into the mixer. - Cheap control knobs and buttons - Big distort sound if amplifying too much

Great sound for cheap price!

I always loved the ART Brand. I use TPS II in both studio and live performance, for guitar and bass instruments, and occasionally on voice. There is only one tube for two channels, so we may be worried to have both channels mixed together, but they're not. I changed the original chinese tube for a Mesa Boogie 12AX7, and the warmth is a lot better! Very useful to get a warm tube sound and a crunchier guitar. For voice, I'm not a fan of the presets, so I prefer using the PRO MPA. But don't forget that it's $70 per channel... Very cheap for such a great sound. Looking for a similar product in another brand would be at least 2 or 3 times the price. I recommend this product!
