Lastolite LR3686 overview

  • 1Description

This is a 3' cubelite shooting tent. The Cubelite takes the light tent concept to a fully collapsible softbox for space efficiency and easy transport. The Cubelite sets up in seconds to form a self-contained, completely enclosed shooting environment free of unwanted reflections and shadows.

The Cubelite is made of a durable white diffusion material allowing the subject to be lit from the sides, back, top and, with a suitable light table, the bottom. Use whatever lights you have, or use it outdoors.

Ideal for product shots, glassware, and other shiny objects.

Cubelite Shooting Tent - 3' is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well for the right subjects Using this has been an educational experience for me. I bought it to do a product photography shoot for a client. It does a good job of helping you put nice-looking light on a variety of subjects. It is not a good choice for smooth, highly reflective, convex shapes. Shooting these types of subjects results in reflections that show the support hoops and every wrinkle in the white nylon fabric. If there is a way to make this tent work for those types of subjects, I didn't find it. I switched methods and used a very large, closely-placed softbox instead. Setup and breakdown is easy and quick, but not if you try to fold it with the front diffuser cloth in place. I have successfully hung a variety of objects from the internal loops with white nylon cord and the hoops work well enough to support the weight. I use this with the white vinyl background, which you probably just need to include in the cost, since this box has no bottom of its own.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK, but Not Perfect I used the cubelite for a series of product shoots, and it worked perfectly for that. It's a great time-saver with post-processing work (or lack thereof). The cons of this is it that once you get it upright and try to fold it inside the package it is very hard to do so. And if you do it incorrectly, it is a bit of a hassle trying to get it upright. We used 3 yardsticks to keep it up during the shoot, which worked, but still something as functional as this should not require assistance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Performs as advertised I am using it for shooting manufactured electronic parts. It is easy to carry which will allow it to be used at the manufactures site when necessary. I look forward to working with it in the garden next summer. But I will have to be careful to make sure the ground is dry. Getting it dirty would not be good. One thing that occurred to me right away was that I needed the vinyl background accessory for small parts and electronic cables. The wrinkled surface of the bottom of the cube doesn't work. I'm also thinking of getting a small chroma key background to use inside of it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy setup, good light I bought the Cubelite to replace a DIY light tent and have been really happy with the results. Not only is it super easy to set up but it packs away into such a compact disc that it frees up tons of space in the studio when you're not using it. It is deceivingly large when it's open which is both a blessing and a hinderance. You do need space to set it up. At first I couldn't figure out how to break it down but I found a video tutorial on Lastolite's website that made it simple. The nylon gives a nice diffuse light with soft shadows using just one light and the accessory reflector. It seems to be well made and durable. One of the hoop rims got bent when I was moving it but it easily flexed back into shape. The front cover makes taking shots of shiny objects easier as it blocks reflections from outside the tent. I wish there was a zipper in the top as well for taking shots straight down. Overall, I'm really happy with this product and would recommend it for anyone doing product shots of smaller objects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I was looking for. Purchased this to start taking more professional pictures of my pottery. Works well with my backdrop that I purchased and has clips in the inside for it. Really like the compact factor when storing. Watched the video to learn how to refold it back into the case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product Shoot I used the cube lite to photograph table accessories for Plough and Stone, a small business located in Manchester Vermont. I used a three light setup and a window light on one side for fill. The Items had some nice sutle shadows and appeared almost 3D. Very happy with this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great for the price reasonably solid for consistently stationary studio work. only issue is the cube curves in at the interior seams so the sweep won't lie flat. you have to cut the sweep to be a few inches narrower than the cube.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product Sometimes I have difficulties to open it up to the proper locked position. Probably it needs getting used to. However, overall it's a good, big tent for isolated object shoots.
