I replaced a pair of Nuvo outdoor speakers with these. They sound pretty good and I would definitely recommend them. They are great for a little louder than background music.....

Sound good, not a lot of bass.

These are well made and hardware is provided for several options for using and/or installing the speakers. There is not a lot of low end with these speakers. I can adjust the eq on my receiver to get sufficient bass, but if bass is important to you I recommend getting other speakers.

The Yamaha NS-AW350 is water resistant, not water proof.

Yes the brackets can be mounted either way. I found drilling an additional hole in the bracket was helpful for support. And easy.

Google image search for NS-AW350W mountThe speakers do not mount directly, there is a rectangular C bracket that you mount to the wall horizontally or vertically, and the ends of the bracket screw onto the side of the speakers (you can see the attachment screw mounts on the side of the speakers.
