Pentax 70515 Reviews

Another top notch EP from Pentax

I use my Pentax PF85ED scope for birding with an array of fixed focal length eyepieces (XW10, XW14, and XW20) for different conditions. They all perform very well with super wide views and extra sharp and bright images. But this XW14 is what stays in the scope most of the time. In the PF85 scope, this eyepiece produces 36x magnification (a sweet spot) and the view is nothing less than cinematic. Edge-to-edge sharpness is elite. Color is true and, even in low light conditions, the brightness is stunning. When using this eyepiece, I find my self remarking on how immersive the view is. Others who have never looked through a big Pentax paired with an XW will, without fail, will give a "wow" and then pull back to look at the branding on the side of the scope. . . amazed it's not made in Austria. . . This is a top notch instrument. Consider this rig before you drop $4k on a Swaro, Kowa, or Zeiss. The views are as good (maybe better in some cases) for less than 1/2 the price.

Returned it.

Reviews for this eyepiece were great. But, image was dull, lacked contrast, and extremely difficult to keep centered in my eye, even with the 20mm eye relief. Purchased expensive Pentax 80mmED scope to go along with this eyepiece. Don't know if problem was with scope, eyepiece, or both. But, returned everything to B&H and purchased another brand,
