Logan Electric 1500G reviews

Slide File #1500G For 1500 2 x 2" Slides - Double Latch is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long Time Storage I have been using these slide files (both 750 & 1500 size) since 1979 and now have over 55 of the units. Recently I have been going through all of my slides for scanning and have not found any prroblems with the stored slides. The plastic liner has not broken down, the slides are not covered in dust, the latches have remainded secure, etc. And most of these units have been through numerous moves (including mailings)as I was in the Air Force until 1996. So, at least through my personal experience, I have not had one problem or concern in using the slide files. Except for the cost: I wont' mention how much the price has risen over the years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Doesn't fit 1,500! The box is pretty well manufactured, the latches engages correctly and the product has a very sturdy construction.Problem? It doesn't fit the 1,500 slides as promised: w/o removing the plastic trays, I could fit only 1,100, that is approx 26% less than advertised.I guess the same applies with the single layered box, advertised to 750 slides: if the same proportion applies, don't expect to fit more than 550. Problems Encountered: It fits less slides than advertised Previous Equivalent Items Owned: None Items I Recommend: none

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good box, holds about 1380 slides We were able to get about 1,380 slides in ours - standard cardboard mounts. Good sturdy box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gave me back four shelves of storage. It allows me to organize, label and store slides from carousels that had taken up four storage shelves. They stack neatly, (I added small, neoprene pads to each bottom corner which clears the handle below nicely.) It's nice to get a bit of my carousel money back from selling the extra carousels also. I kept a couple of carousels to project them but as I scan them I can see them on the big TV screen. I also have a small stackable loader that lets me see the slide directly from the cases, the drop front make access to the bottom tray easy. Well built and good looking. A great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid but not totally thought-through I've got roughly 20,000 slides in projector carousels that need to be scanned to digital. Because they are taking up far too much room in my office I purchased these boxes to try and reduce some of the wasted space. These were by far, the highest capacity storage boxes I could find. The outer box itself is well constructed and I have no doubt that it will last quite a long time. The latches leave a little to be desired as they're kind of fiddly to get done up, especially with full trays inside the box. This isn't a huge deal if you're not accessing the box regularly, but would be irritating for daily use. Also, the box lid feels as though it's pressing against the slides in the upper tray when you try to latch it up. This makes me a bit nervous but I don't think it'll destroy anything.. Last on the box itself, each has a hard plastic handle rivited atop the lid. This completely prevents any stacking of boxes without storing them back in the original cardboard packing boxes. This seems a bit silly to me. Inside, the plastic trays were disappointingly flimsy, the bottoms of each tray were thin enough that some compartments had small holes in them. (They remind me of those cheap plastic trays you get starter plants from a greenhouse in) Since this isn't a high use piece of the box it isn't likely this'll cause any grief right away, but plastic does break down and I would hazard a guess that if you were archiving slides for a long time you may see that the bottoms will fall out at some point. --This is a guess. Finally with the trays, although these boxes are advertised to hold 1500 slides, in practice I've ended up breaking down 36 slide Airquipt cartridges to two compartments each, meaning that I managed to fill one Logan box with 1080 slides. Due to varying thickness of each slide, some groups of 18 seem to pack in a compartment fairly tight, and others seem extrordinarly loose. While I have no doubt that you might be able to squeeze 1500 slides in to these boxes, my concern would be that the film might end up rubbing against its neighbour and scratching one or both in the process. For long term storage, these are the most economical boxes I've found, though I might be tempted to try paper boxes instead. For short-term storage, say 1 to 5 years I think these are more than suffiicent and they definitely meet my own needs for the time being.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The good and the bad The metal boxes are spot welded;the top and bottom drawers with the hinged front panel are convenient. The top handle is not recessed, so you cannot stack the boxes on top of each other; the inner dividers are paper thin cheap molded plastic and are extremely fragile. Slides are stored in bunches instead of individually.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from convenient but poor protection Sides fit snugly in compartments, easy to see, easy to carry. But there are large holes in the corner that allow air, bugs, dust to enter. Also, front latches do not feel secure, as if they could unhook while carrying and fall apart. I need long-term storage, and I'd need to put this in ANOTHER box to keep it truly secure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Order From Chaos... There is not much to say about the product. It stores slides in a sturdy, nice looking efficient design. Beats 100's of yellow/green boxes laying around...
