question

Can anyone tell me the thread size on the bottom of this unit (for boom pole, etc)? I need to adapt it to an old-school mic stand. Thanks!
Asked by: Jeff
Hi Jeff: thanks for your question. It's 3/8 . If your old-school stand is 5/8 , you can use the following adapter: http://mymic.rycote.com/products/brass-3_8-m-to-5_8-f-screw-adaptor/. Basically, any 3/8 M to required size adapter will work. I hope that helps!

question

what's the difference between this one and the Rycote Super-Shield Kit for Shotgun Mics ??
Asked by: Daniel S.
The wind protection for the Super-Shield & Modular series are identical, with or without the Windjammer fitted. The difference is on the opening mechanism of each basket (Modular = slide on, Super = twist lock) and with the suspension & cable each is supplied with. The Modular suspension is extremely versatile, with different grades of hardness suspension Lyres, that can be repositioned in multiple positions for maximum balance. The Lyres on the Modular are universal (19-25mm round & square MKH), and feature a soft-grip inner surface & it is fitted with a 3-pin XLR/XLR Connbox using Neutrik & Mogami parts. The Super-Shield suspension comes with one type of 19-25mm Lyre, which does not have soft-grip. The Lyre can be repositioned, but only to a few locations on the bar. It comes with a straight XLR cable, with Neutrik XLR connectors.

question

How does this blimp compare with the rycote super-shield? Looks like this one has a connbox and the other does not. How important is that feature to handling noise? Thanks
Asked by: Brian G.
Hi Brian: thanks for your question. The Connbox does reduce handling noise substantially; it's been designed almost exclusively for that purpose, along with tidy and effective signal routing internally (e.g. for mid-side configurations). It really depends on how you work, and how much you value handling noise and impact reduction in a windshield. Reducing it to a bare minimum might be particularly important if the rig is on the end of a boom pole, for example; a Modular might be the best choice in that case. If you needed a cost-effective, handheld solution for quick and easy sound effects gathering in the field, you might opt for the Super-Shield. For the ultimate in handling noise reduction, your best bet would be our industry-leading, flagship Cyclone range. There is no established, quantifiable method of measuring handling noise, since it's a highly variable source and depends entirely on how a rig is operated in the field. Hope that helps! MF.
