The Sennheiser BA 2015G2 is a rechargeable battery pack for the Sennheiser G2, G3, and G4 series wireless systems (transmitter and receiver). The battery features two rechargeable NiMH cells and is inserted into the battery compartment instead of two standard AA cells. An integrated sensor indicates battery status, monitors temperature during recharging, and avoids the charging of non-rechargeable batteries. Battery charger is sold separately.

question
Are the NiMH cells simply rechargeable AA cells? And can they be swapped out for higher capacity rechargeable AA cells?
They are a proprietary battery pack from Sennheiser made for the G2 and G3 wireless systems. They are not intended for higher capacity rechargeable AA cells.

How are they used if the positive and the negative are opposite?
Howdy! This battery pack can only be oriented in one specific direction, due to the physical shape of the product. It cannot be easily inserted backward. Incorrect installation is immediately obvious.

Am I right in thinking it would make more sense to just buy a 4-pack of AA eneloop pros and a charger? Plus you'd get 2250 mAh.
You may choose to purchase the Panasonic Eneloop Pro Rechargeable AA Ni-MH Batteries with Charger (2550mAh, Pack of Four), BH #PAKJ17KHCA4A instead of the Sennheiser battery packs and charger, which would provide the same type of power a a lower cost. The Sennhieser system provides more convenience, by not having to remove the individual AA batteries to charge them, but it is a significant investment.

question
Do the same battery packs fit the handheld and body pack units in the G3 100 series?
Yes we use the battery packs in both the body packs and handhelds. I believe you can use the accupacks in any Sennheiser device that uses 2 AA Batteries side-by-side
