Manfrotto 231B Overview

The Manfrotto 231B Column Stand with Sliding Arm is a black anodized aluminum, wheeled, single column stand that is perfect for studio use. The 231 has a leveling leg, which extends and locks, making the load more stable on uneven surfaces such as steps. This product is available with a brushed aluminum finish (#231) or with a chrome steel column, (231CS).

Manfrotto 231B Reviews

Another great Manfrotto product

I bought these to use with my Peter Hurley Westcott Flex Cine lighting system. I noticed that Peter uses these in his studio. They are more difficult to pack up and take on location than a traditional light stand, but work great wherever you use them. Casters are solid and good quality. The slide arms grip well and have never slipped.

I shoot newborn photography and I love this stand. That allows me to take my PLM all the way to the floor as well as high above parents heads. I consider it a newborn photography necessity.

I have this stand. I just realized that the 2 top poles are supposed to be locked or secured together somehow. I see holes for screws but nothing inside them. Any ideas??
Asked by: Jenolyn
There is only a hex screw which allows the two sections to fasten together. The hole at the top portion would not need a screw.

It will work better if you add Impact Swivel Umbrella Adapter B&H # IMCA108 under the Ad400pro to hold the umbrella.

The Manfrotto 231B Column Stand with Sliding Arm (8') comes only in that complexation. As an alternative there is a slightly lower one at 7.25ft Impact Column Stand with Sliding Arm https://bhpho.to/3tLAz84

question

Would this stand and two of the spring clamps serve to hold a camera on one of the grips, and a laptop table and laptop on the other?
Asked by: Tobias W G.
It is a beast, I have done exactly what you asked. In addition to many other creative things. Using super clamps I put a rod on a clamp and hung multiple lamps off the rod. I have a heavy monfrotto weight clamped to the bottom of the upright to keep it balanced. I have built trays that carry laptops. I use multiple clamps on the upright. Superclamps are an alternative to the spring clamp. When you get too much load on a spring clamp it can slip. In that case use a superclamp to support it or just use a superclamp.
