Essential in snow and sand

I do mostly landscape photography, and paired with the Gitzo 3 Series tripod, these spikes make the tripod rock solid and stable in streams, deep snow, ocean water, and beach sand. I lost one, luckily they sell singly as well. Make sure to use loctite on the threads to make them less likely to back out and drop off when hiking in the back country.

I got this set in addition to the shorter ones for work on the steep slopes of the Faroe Islands and these were great for that. I also work in a lot of snow and ice and they are exactly what you need for problematic terrain, snow often compacts too much and the legs of the tripod splay out making the tripod "bounce". I do wish the tooling required was the same as the short spikes as it would mean less tools to carry abroad.

The Gitzo G1220.129LB3 4.7" Extra Long Spike Set is not compatible with a Gitzo GT1545T Series 1 Traveler tripod. You would need spikes with a 1/4"-20 thread such as the 3 Legged Thing Heelz Tripod Leg Spikes (Set of 3): B&H # 3LLEGHEELZ.
