This is a Matthews Black Single Open End Scrim (18 x 24"). The frames are made of spring steel with a 3/8" pin and support which can be used to hang the Scrim from the C Stand handle when not in use.

The two upright arms of the frame are slotted at the two open ends to retain the piano wire woven through the fabric to make up the fourth side of the frame without causing a shadow.

Open Ends are used to control or manipulate light falling on certain areas of the set or subject. They can be used to soften or reduce light without a noticeable edge. A color coded binding is used around the frame to identify the fabric. Green is single and red is double.

Open End Frames are black powder coated to minimize unwanted reflections.

Black Single Open End Scrim (18 x 24") is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great light control in a small package! These are perfect for knocking down the reflection from a bright piece of clothing on an actor by about a stop. It's also small enough to hand hold over an actor's head in a moving shot under direct sunlight, when you can't afford a 20 X 20 butterfly kit of course.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and effective There isn't much to a scrim; it's a mesh fabric stretched and/or sewn over a metal frame. They're somewhat delicate by nature. Given that, this one seems to be well built and, as long as you're careful with it, should last quite some time. It's also pretty accurate. Using a light meter, I can confirm it cuts the light by 1 stop, give or take a tenth or two.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Industry standard Works well. Lasts a long time if handled correctly. Frame is reusable if netting is damaged.
