Matthews 149566 overview

  • 1Description

Open End Frames are made of spring steel with a 3/8" pin and support which can be used to hang the Scrim from the C Stand handle when not in use.

The two upright arms of the frame are slotted at the two open ends to retain the piano wire woven through the fabric to make up the fourth side of the frame without causing a shadow.

Open Ends are used to control or manipulate light falling on certain areas of the set or subject. They can be used to soften or reduce light without a noticeable edge. A color coded binding is used around the frame to identify the fabric.

Open End Frames are black powder coated to minimize unwanted reflections.

Open End Scrim - 24x36" - White Artificial is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Stained Silk Ordered two of these, brand new. Both arrived with stains on the silk. Both scrims were taped together with cellophane on the metal. We spent several minutes removing the tape. The tape left behind a sticky residue as well that will need to be removed once we have some free time to clean the brand new equipment we purchased. Customer service is so difficult to deal with that it is easier for us not to return or make a complaint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as intended Great size for working with 1024 LED lights. I like to attach this to a triple header via matthews hollywood arm; allows for a compact setup (light and diffuser all on one c-stand). Going any larger than this size would make transport difficult even with my large SUV. I'm not sure what the 1.6 stops refers to in the description. I have measured this silk cutting about 2 stops while diffusing my LED light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a solid product We use this outside a lot to help diffuse the sun on portraits. With its solid and rigged frame, it's a great piece of gear to own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect size for the one man operator I initially bought a 48 x 48 without realizing just how big it is. So I got a couple of these. The 24 x 36 are much more portable and fit into the back of an SUV or small van easily. They are plenty big enough for most lights and work well with LEDs also. Build quality is excellent and frames will last forever. Get the carry bag also. It will keep them safe and it's worth it in the long run.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for Making Any Light Soft When bouncing light or using a soft-box isn't an option, this silk will turn any tungsten/open-face light into a soft source. The frame is welded with precision to uphold the test of time and usage, and the silk is finely woven to provide a nice warm and flattering effect on whatever is being lit. Bottom line: The perfect tool for turning an other-wise harsh light into a soft light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough as nails... All Matthews grip equipment is defacto standard in my kit. I shoot tv news and magazine style shows in Los Angeles. My scrims save the talent from the brutal sun and allow me to remold the light how I like it. My gear takes a beating. In my daily assignments I need to setup quickly and talent expects to look great. When talent looks great I get re-booked. Failure is not an option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple Durable Perfect Just as the title says. Simple, durable, perfect. I use it mostly add a gobo for portraits and I get a beautiful and subtle hint of light on the side of the jaw line and it adds a shape I can only match if I was illustrating with charcoal. It's the little things in life.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good general sized silk Great for softening light off of a 7-10 reflector, but overall softboxes are better suited for this size if you are in still photography especially. They are also much more fragile than a soft box and should be handled with care.
