Matthews 199102 Overview

The Cucoloris is used to create shadow patterns on backgrounds or subjects. A flatly lit wall can be broken up into interesting pools of light and shadow. Lighting directors frequently use them to simulate sunlight filtering through trees.

The 24x36" Cello Cucoloris from Matthews projects a more subtle pattern. The pattern itself depends on the distance of the light source and the distance to the background. This "cookie" has webbing on three sides to prevent injury and present a more finished look.

Old-school style for portrait backgrounds

I use this for B&W portraits, and the cello provides a shimmering positive addition to a plain white backdrop. Avoids the moody drama of the wooden cookie, or lighting through a venetian blind. Used with a 650w fresnel as the light source. Adjust to your taste for the appropriate contrast. Would rank higher, but the metal screen material is fragile and can tear. Tears do not impact the final image.

Very nice cucoloris. Provides excellent, textures for leafy, subdued dapples of light. Matthews quality is always outstanding, and my cucoloris is no exception.
