Smith-Victor P800 overview

  • 1Description

This Smith-Victor P800 Pinnacle Tripod supports up to 5.0 lb, measures 20.7" when folded and includes a two-way, pan-and-tilt head. Its 3-section legs each feature flip locks for fast deployment, and can be positioned for a minimum height of 20.5" to a maximum height of 42.0", or 50.7" with its column fully raised. The column utilizes a geared movement for precise height adjustments and an integrated center brace allows the legs to be spread simultaneously as well as uniformly. The center brace helps to hold the legs in place, which include rubber feet to further enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces.

Cameras, sport optics, or camcorders that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the quick release plate, which is secured to the tripod's pan-and-tilt head using a quick release cam lock. The head can be rotated 360°, tilted 60° backwards, and 90° forwards. Both the 360° rotation as well as the backward or forward tilt movements function simultaneously and can be set in place using the pan bar's integrated twist lock.

To change from a landscape to portrait orientation, the quick release plate can be attached to a compatible camera so that the when it is placed on the tripod head, the camera lens is parallel to the subject and perpendicular to the front of the tripod head which is opposite the pan handle. The head itself can then be rotated 90° until the lens faces the subject, and tilted 90° forward before closing the pan bar's twist lock.

    Smith-Victor P800 reviews

P800 Pinnacle Tripod with 2-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Flimsy The reason I wanted to get a new tripod was because the one I had previously was too flimsy and moved on me too much. The Smith-Victor tripod has worked really well with me. I know it's securely locked when I lock it and the rotating handle is my favourite part. The concerning part for me is how the camera is placed in the first place. It's hard to get that bottom (what is the proper name?) on the camera to begin with. But ultimately, I'm happy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Get what you pay for. It's worth every penny, but that's not saying much haha. It works, just be sure to note how to use the cranking mechanism. You have to push it in to allow it to go up and down. I thought it was broken, then I noted it has this info printed on the lever. Besides that, it's worth it. It's light, easy to use, and a good entry level tripod for a beginner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for my use I am an amateur phtographer. I wanted an inexpensive, sturdy tripod to use. This had everything I wanted. It would have received 5 stars if it came with a carry bag. Thought that was a given. I guess not...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tripod! Loving the tripod so far! It's stable and sturdy in it's construction. Using it with a Canon Powershot indoors to do test run music videos for YouTube. Sets up easily and love the hand crank telescoping body. Haven't tried it with anything heavier but do use a Sima LED light on a bar mount with the camera and haven't had issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is a small tripod, just as described I was looking for a lightweight tripod that I could carry around all day. I will use it to support a small video camera and sometimes a DSLR. Most of the footage shot using this tripod will be just above waist high. It is what I was looking for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not as cheap feeling as I was expecting! Purchased this to send on a mission trip to Africa to capture footage of the programs going on. Lightweight and easy to transport. Sturdier than I was expecting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tripod for the Price We use these for a fixed location and they are perfect. They are not super sturdy, but the pan and tilt is smooth and works great for us.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good travel tripod I would give it a 5 star if the height extended a bit more but as it is, It is an excellent basic tripod for a small camera. We (our HS broadcast class) travel for competition and need to be able to pack light and be maneuverable quickly... so this is a great tripod for the price and function.
