Smith-Victor P820 overview

  • 1Description

This Smith-Victor P820 Pinnacle Tripod supports up to 6.0 lb, measures 26.5" when folded and includes a two-way, pan-and-tilt head. Its 3-section legs each feature flip locks for fast deployment, and can be positioned for a minimum height of 25.0" to a maximum height of 54.5", or 63.7" with its column fully raised. The column utilizes a geared movement for precise height adjustments and an integrated center brace allows the legs to be spread simultaneously as well as uniformly. The center brace helps to hold the legs in place, which include rubber feet with twist-out, metal spikes to further enhance stability on a wide variety of surfaces, including soft and uneven soil.

Cameras, sport optics, or camcorders that are compatible with a 1/4"-20 mount can be connected to the quick release plate, which is secured to the tripod's pan-and-tilt head using a quick release cam lock. The head can be rotated 360°, tilted 60° backwards, and 90° forwards. Both the 360° rotation as well as the backward or forward tilt movements function simultaneously and can be set in place using the pan bar's integrated twist lock.

To change from a landscape to portrait orientation, the quick release plate can be attached to a compatible camera so that the when it is placed on the tripod head, the camera lens is parallel to the subject and perpendicular to the front of the tripod head which is opposite the pan handle. The head itself can then be rotated 90° until the lens faces the subject, and tilted 90° forward before closing the pan bar's twist lock.

    Smith-Victor P820 reviews

P820 Pinnacle Tripod with 2-Way, Pan-and-Tilt Head is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for the price! I use these tripods for my high school students in a digital video class. while the legs are plastic, and the handles can crack under hard usage, they hold up better than anything else we've tried in this price range. Especially the head unit. They stay smooth after a couple of years of use. I also purchased a few of the Sunpak tripods at about the same price range, and after just 6 months, the actions got gritty and rough, whereas these tripods stay nice and smooth. Their one major weakness is the horizontal supports for the legs - They break moderately easily. But out of over 12 tripods I've had for the last 3 years, only one has broken, so that's not too bad, considering they're being used by a bunch of teenagers!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for small camcorder For the cost and size, this tripod has been smooth for our camcorders and sturdy for a consistent look. It may not be great for bigger camcorders, as the ones I use are smaller Cannon's, but for most recreational users it should work great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This tripod is as smooth as silk I mount my Sony camcorder on this tripod and use it mostly to shoot employees promoting our companies products.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A bit flimsy for my use, but still works The tripod is light-weight and has a useful carrying handle. I'm 5'8'' and the tripod is the perfect height, I do not need to extend the center column. It is a bit flimsy though and shakes in the wind, but not too bad. I use this tripod with my angled spotting scope. So the tripod may be good for cameras, but not ideal for a spotting scope.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Tripod I have a Canon T2i (2.1 lbs) camera that I use for video. Fluid head movement was very important to me and for under $100 this tripod's head was incredibly smooth. It's a lightweight tripod so it is a little bit flimsy, but I would definitely recommend this tripod to any friend who had a lightweight DSLR camera.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for the money I purchased this tripod is for the GoPro Hero 3. Nothing much, but I wanted a lightweight tripod with these features: carry handle, flip levers, light weight, inexpensive, spiked feet, and smooth moving head. In this price range, you can't beat it!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A weak product I got this tripod for the second camera I bought for our webshow. I folded the tripod and put it into the car. The leg snapped off. So its not really stable. The fluid head was very nice for such a cheaply priced tripod, but I do not recommend it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Value for the Money If you are looking for this to be a professional model, look elsewhere. It is good for the money, but it isn't very stable.
