Tele Vue Nagler Overview

Designed specifically for planetary viewing, and to enable the user to easily find the highest possible useful magnification on a given night with constantly changing atmospheric conditions, the Tele Vue Nagler Planetary 3-6mm Zoom Eyepiece is built with a 5-element/3-group lens configuration. This allows it to maintain a relatively long 10mm eye relief despite the short focal lengths, while being parfocal, through the entire zoom range. Maintaining parfocality allows the user to run through the focal length range without the need to refocus after each new magnification is set.

Built to Tele Vue's exacting standards, the eyepiece features anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics to improve brightness, color rendition, and contrast. Click-stop positions at every millimeter through the focal length range allow users to track settings and calculate magnification without having to take their eye away from the eyecup. A fold-down rubber eyecup allows for easy use with or without eyewear, and a textured collar allows for sure handling in the cold or while wearing gloves.

The Planetary Zoom has a barrel diameter of 1.25" to fit into the most common sized focusers and accessories, and is also parfocal with all Tele Vue group 'B' eyepieces, allowing you to change eyepieces within the group without having to refocus every time - saving time and limiting vibrations.

Typical high quality TV zoom. Makes high power viewing easier when you don't have to change eyepieces. Has only 10mm of eye relief, so make sure that is OK for you. I wear glasses and this eye relief works for me. I would buy this again. B&H delivered quickly and well packed, as usual.

High magnification zoom eyepiece

I tried it for the first time with 8 Meade LX90 ACF tonight in a light-polluted area. I can recommend upgrading to this excellent eyepiece if your telescope can provide satisfactory views using 6mm Celestron, Meade or similar eyepieces. This is a very high quality zoom eyepiece that allows you to magnify the view using 6, 5, 4 and 3mm options. There is a click-stop at every step so you know at what magnification you are viewing while switching. The eye relief is okay. I tried it with Uranus but it was too small to show a significant benefit. I also tried it with Almaak and it was really worth the price. It was a beautiful view. I am looking forward to observing Saturn and Jupiter. Cheers, Levent

This is my first TeleVue eyepiece, and I am impressed. It's really something to look through an eyepiece with such consistent optical quality from edge to edge. I have several 100 degree eyepieces, but it took this one for me to realize just how important our interpretation of periphery really is. Also, it's neat that this eyepiece holds its focus across the zoom stages.

Is astigmatism an issue with Nagler zoom, which result in very small exit pupil dimensions? I hope not to wear eyeglasses, due to only 10mm eye relief on this zoom. Thanks.
Asked by: Steve K
As one can see reading the reviews on the Tele Vue Nagler Planetary 3-6mm Zoom Eyepiece (1.25"), there does not appear to be an astigmatism issue. Users with glasses say the eye relief works for them.
