Tele Vue SSF-1006 overview

  • 1Description

It may sound silly, but it is quite hard to find the sun with a telescope.  You can't dare risk a direct look.  The Sol Searcher functions as a projector, with its aperture acting as a pinhole to image the sun towards the eyepiece.  You actually look away from the sun, at the translucent screen, to find the sun.  Completely safe and easily aligned to your scope.

Tele Vue SSF-1006 reviews

Sol-Searcher Finderscope is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would buy another Elegant in it's simplicity. I have one mounted on my Tele-Vue telescope and have another adapted to fit on a camera hot shoe for a filtered 400mm lens. Getting ready for the Total Solar Eclipse.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool little thing Slimple idea that saves time, neck and eye. You have to buy the bracket specific for your telescope if is not televue. But I used velcro instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential Finder for Solar Astronomy If you are into looking at the sun with a telescope (PROPERLY FILTERED), then this is an essential tool for you. Easy to mount on most scopes and it allows you to safely point the scope at your target. Simple yet very effective. I would give this more than 5 stars if I could.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the best and easiest device to use to locate the Sun After mounting the Sol-Searcher parallel to my solar scope, this morning I was able to locate the Sun in the scope after centering the Sun's image on the back screen of the finder, with my back to the Sun instead of looking into it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quick way to solar alight your scope....but This works well once you have properly aligned the finder with you telescope (with proper solar filtration, of course), though it is a bit tricky getting the alignment before use. While it can be screwed onto your scope, some type of magnetic attachment would be better, allowing use on different scopes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Safe , easy way to align to solar disk I purchased this product to make it easier to aim my 70mm refractor scope with a glass filter. The Sol-Searcher was attached with double sided sticky tape. I can now get on target in a few seconds. The provided adjustment is slight, but was plenty to provide desired results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Elegant simplicity I use this on a Televue 76 that is on a Vixen PortA Alt/Az mount. It fits perfectly on the Televue ring and was easy to tweak to perfect alignment. You can orient to find the Sun, with the Sun at your back which saves your vision. You can also make adjustments from the eyepiece side of the finder via the small round translucent projection screen. Now finding the Sun only takes a few seconds. Like the subject line says, it is truely elegant simplicity.
