    Pentax 14mm f/2.8 reviews

Super Wide Angle SMCP-DA 14mm f/2.8 Autofocus Lens is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointing... Since it is a prime lens, I expected stellar performance. It didn't quite measure up. Wide open, it is very soft. If you are going to take group portraits of elderly women, then this is your lens. Otherwise, prepare to stop down to f/5.6 before you get usable results. From f/8 to f/11 the lens sparkles. The images need very little if any PP work. Beautiful contrast, sharpness, and saturation. Unfortunately, unless you need f/2.8 you will be much better off with the Sigma 10-20mm or the Pentax 12-24mm.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great wide angle for Pentax This is an awesome lens. It is built very well with lots of metal so it's heavier than one might think. Distortion is very well controlled for such a wide lens. It is a little soft at f/2.8, but not so much that it's a deal breaker. All in all, a great lens and a good buy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Superb for an extreme wide angle. This is one of my most used lenses for landscape and it is a gem. It is sharp, has excellent contrast and colour rendition, nice bokeh and very little distortions. Some of my best photos were taken with this lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a good lens for landscape. I use this lens for nature photography. The focus can be done very close to the object. Allows, for example, shooting a flower and still show the environment where it occurs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 90 degree field of view This is just the lens I needed for shooting pictures in museums, where the lighting is universally horrible, and where exhibits are so close together you have to be very close to the subject. At f2.8, coupled with the higher ASA possibilities of the Pentax cameras, lighting is no longer a problem. In most cases, I can shoot without a flash, so as not to get reflections off display cases and chrome. And of course, depth of field is never a problem with wide angle lenses. So, I can open the lens a bit and gain a little more light without my photography suffering from a shallow depth of field. I don't have to shoot at f16. In particular, the 90-degree field of view is perfect for taking pictures of automobile dash boards and aircraft cockpits. The 90-degree field of view is also useful in architectural photography. Just put the back of the camera plumb to the ground, use the vertical format, and you'll see upward at a 45 degree angle. From there, simply crop off the bottom of the photograph. Using this method, you do not get the perspective problem of the upper floors of a building converging to a point. I have an older K-mount shift lens, which I have used on my K-5-II, but this 14mm lens is far easier. This method also allows me to shoot tall missiles at rocket parks. In challengine situations, this lens is the real deal.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A BEATY FOR LANDSCAPES/INTERIOR ROOMS STUNNING IMAGES FOR LANDSCAPES/INDOOR INTERIORS...I GAVE IT A 4 STAR CAUSE I HAVE USED IT FOR INDOOR CONCERTS AND ALTHOUGH THE 14M PERSPECTIVE IS AWESOME, THE 2.8 IS NOT TACK SHARP LIKE ALL PRIMES SHOULD BE...YES SOFT BUT IMAGES STILL HAVE A BEAUTIFUL ARTISTIC LOOK AT WIDE OPEN 2.8 SETTING....ALL IN ALL THIS LENSE DELIVERS BEAUTIFUL EXPOSURES IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE YOUR CAMARA!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 90 degree WA opens new vistas for me I've used it for landscapes and group portraits. It enables me to work in tight areas that would make good photographs impossible with other lenses. It's sharp enough for me, even wide open, but of course it could be sharper at f2.8.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent lens I have had this lens for about 5 years now. I do a lot of landscape photography and this lens is perfect for that. I never use it at f2.8 so I can't offer an opinion on the sharpness. The f2.8 is great for focusing but I shoot mostly at f11 or f16 to get the foreground and background in focus. Heavy, well built lens, works with my K5 perfectly.
