Shure RPW120 Overview

The RPW120 from Shure is a Beta 87A condenser microphone capsule compatible with most interchangeable Shure handheld transmitters (available separately), with the exception of the BLX and GLX-D systems. It delivers a clear, detailed vocal sound for professional sound reinforcement, broadcasting, and studio recording applications.

The uniform supercardioid polar pattern provides maximized gain-before-feedback along with a smooth frequency response and high sound pressure level capability (140.5 dB).

Featuring an electronic low-frequency roll-off and a shockmount system, the capsule virtually eliminates proximity effect and reduces handling noise. Its circuitry is designed for low susceptibility to RFI and electromagnetic hum.

Shure RPW120 Reviews

not the same as the original

I have a complete Beta 87A package and I love that. I attempted to upgraded my Beta 58 package to 87A using just this. My friends immediately notice that one of the mic is better than the other. They look mostly identical except the body of the 58 is a bit less black than the 87 body. My friends don't know which one is upgraded but they can tell which one sounds better. The Beta 58 I purchased here at BH last year and my attempt to upgraded just the head unit to beta 87a somewhat fails. I admitted that the 87a is way better than the beta 58. and upgrading just this Cartridge somewhat better but not as good as the original 87 package. I am not sure why.

question

Why is it not compatible with the BLX?
Asked by: mel s.
BLX wireless series features a fully integrated capsule in its handheld transmitters. This means that the microphone capsule is hardwired into the transmitter handle which does not allow it to be removed to change capsule types. BLX and GLX-D are the only Shure wireless series with handheld transmitters like this. All other current series allow you to switch out the capsule and are compatible with this product.

question

Can I use it for my glxd4 z2 beta 87a?
Asked by: Wendy M.
The microphone capsules on the GLXD2 Handheld transmitters are fully integrated (hard-wired into the transmitter) so if you are looking to switch out your current mic capsule for another, this is not possible in the GLXD Series. Your only option in that case would be to purchase another GLXD2 transmitter all together, which can in turn be used with your existing GLXD4 receiver. If you might be looking to replace the capsule because you believe it may be defective, then it is best to seek repair under warranty from Shure (additional details regarding warranty coverage and procedure for return can be found on Shure.com).
