Tiffen Smoque Overview

The Tiffen 72mm Smoque 4 Filter is a unique diffusion filter that provides a smoky, hazy quality to your images, emulating the effects of a smoke or fog machine. This filter is ideal for use in situations where smoke could typically be encountered, but is not available or present. The 4 density provides more smoke effect than the 3.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Great atmospheric gag without having to cart around a hazer or fogger. As a YT reviewer pointed out it would be great if there was a strength between 2 and 3. But since there is not such a strength I would rather err on the side of less is more.

I bought this because I was tired of seeing all the blooming filters. This gives a great look that doesn't look like everything else you see.

This filter provides your video with a really nice cinematic look. The haze it provides to the lights within your shots is subtle and so not something that viewers will overtly notice. It creates a cinematic feel to the scene that is otherwise hard to create. Expensive, but for me, definitely worth it.

I love this filter, it creates a really soft and natural bloom from windows and bright sources (sometimes it can really look like smoke is in the room).  Only downside is that certain sources (fluorescents especially) create a sort of rainbow effect which is rather unnatural. Best suited to windows or tungsten light!

I am using 82mm Smoque 2 filter with 14-30mm S lens for Nikon Z. Very little or no vignetting even st 14mm. It gives a good volume to the background atmosphere without making subject blurry or too soft. It removes blemishes on the face and still maintains sharpness. In my opinion it works better indoors than outdoors.
