Flash Frame FF400 overview

  • 1Description

The Flash Flip H.O.T. Bracket for DSLR Cameras from Flash Frame features the same design as the FlashFlip FP, but rotates in the opposite direction of other similar brackets. With this bracket your hand stays on top of the camera - even in the vertical position. The platform base is offset to allow clearance for any hand size.

The bracket has a steady platform base that allows you to stand the entire assembly up (camera, flash and bracket) for easier access and more stability. In addition, the base also has more surface area that makes it ideal for larger cameras like medium format or digital SLR cameras.

The design of this bracket keeps the flash high and directly over the camera lens in both horizontal and vertical positions. This eliminates red-eye and unwanted side shadows. By having the flash high above the lens, shadows are cast behind the subject and are therefore not seen in the photograph. It works with most SLR or medium format cameras and shoe-type flashes and has a locking shoe and 1/4"-20 flash mount.

    Flash Frame FF400 reviews

Flash Flip H.O.T. Bracket for DSLR Cameras is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Alpha Bracket from Omega The Flash Flip H.O.T. is BETTER than the two earlier model Stroboframe brackets I own. It's not as bulky as the one bracket with a rotating link, while its construction provides a good carrying handle for the fully assembled rig. It comes with a well-constructed shoe, but one which comes off easily, to allow mounting of the distal end of the Nikon SC-29 (into which my SB-800 fits.) Yes, the overall rig gets a bit heavy, but it balances well, and as noted, can be carried easily. Finally, as advertised, this bracket allows one to shoot verticals with the right hand on top, the more comfortable position.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I always loose money by trying to save! I tried using this product at weddings and events. I thought that the price was right and a Stroboframe would not accommodate my camera. I was shooting a Nikon D70 at the time and thought this would work with a flip feature to allow for vertical shots. The product is lightweight and you hold the camera to use it, not the grip. However, it is too lightweight and the flip feature doesn't give you a secure feeling. It is very loose. My SB800 flash twists and gets off angle. There is no anti-twist plate for the camera. The screw that holds your flash cord (SC29) is just that: a cheap little screw. I have lost that after several uses. Thank goodness they included another one on the bottom arm. You can't find them at Lowe's. Get a good Custom Bracket and forget trying to same money if you really want a bracket that will do the job. I learned my lesson about trying to save money real fast. If anyone would like to buy this bracket I know a guy who would part with one really cheap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Up holding and Illuminating. I use The Flash Flip H.O.T. Bracket on my DSLR Camera in low light or no light for best subject illumination. What make this device a grate investment is its light weight material which it is constructed of and how it is design to attach on the right side of the camera. Because the bracket allows the light source to be elevated several inch's above the camera lens that gives light excellent coverage be it vertical or horizontal. Due to the size of the device or bracket it makes it a little uneasy for transporting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very useful product I bought this before taking senior pictures of my nephew, and found it to work as advertized. Keeping the flash far enough from the lens to avoid redeye, both in horizontal and vertical shots, is a snap; and switching from one orientation to the other couldn't be easier. I like having the bracket on the right, too. It's convenient to be able to have my right hand on top of the camera for vertical shots. My only complaint, and it is a minor one, is that the screw only protrudes a millimeter or so, making it a bit tricky to get it started into the tripod reciever at the bottom of the camera. Once in place, however, it grips securely. All in all, a great purchase, and one I will use frequently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Starting Point I purchased the Flash Flip with a plan to make various improvements and modifications to it so that it can better meet my needs. Its proving to be an excellent starting point for a perfect custom rig.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far, So Good I bought this for shooting weddings and other events with my Nikon D-80 and SB-600 with SC-29 cord. Well constructed (nice to buy something good and solid made in USA). While it does add some weight, it's not too heavy. Well balanced. Easy to go from horizontal to verticle frame. And no side shadows!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect after my modifications Build quality is great compared to one of the cheaper Stroboframe unit (CAMERA FLIP FLASH BRACKET- B&H# STCF : Mfr# 310-900)that I tried and returned. I went with this rig so that I could use my camera grip controls when in portrait orientation. The trouble I had was that where the frame mounts to the base blocks access to the shutter release button on the grip. To solve this I needed to move the frame to the the back of the base. This involved drilling one new hole and using the camera screw track for the new position. I also had to make a custom screw out of a grade 5 1/4-20 bolt that was my motorcycle parts bin. This screw is a bit longer and has a thinner head so the camera does not rock on the base. See attached photos.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Bracket Great bracket for the price. Works very well in horizontal position but could be better shooting vertically. Somewhat hard to get to shutter release if your camera has a power-grip attached.
