Pentax D FA 50mm f/2.8 Macro Overview

The Pentax smc P-D FA Macro 50mm f/2.8 is designed to be extremely compact and lightweight, compared to conventional macro lenses. The drastic downsizing and weight reduction were achieved through the development of compact, high-performance optical elements and the incorporation of durable yet lightweight exterior components.

This lightweight macro lens features an image circle to accommodate up to 35mm format and offers close-up to 1:1 life-size magnification.

The smc P "D" lens series is designed to optimize image quality in both digital SLR and film photography. Improvements include optimized lens coating along with curvature and positioning of optical elements. In particular, flare and ghost images - the most disturbing factors in digital SLR photography - have been reduced to minimum for clear, high-quality digital images.

Close focus capability of 7.7" (19.5 cm)
Built-in focus-clamp mechanism to fix focus at any distance

This lens far exceeded my expectations, particularly at the price point. I use it for scanning 120 negatives and they are sharper than my film scanner can produce.

Excellent lens.

Excellent sharpness, contrast, color, and resolution. Build quality is good (I don't bang my equipment around too much). Also good price for a lens I will use often.

I bought this lens from B&H and it take 2 days to deliver to my office. Overall, I think this lens performance is better than the previous version, especially for built quality. I can say this lens is the best 50mm for PK mount. I think the image performance is better than DA* 55mm F1.4. The auto focus speed is fast and accurate on K-1. The Clamp function make manual focus much more easier.

Good for normal and close-up work. Nice walk around lens.

Better build than expected

I bought this specifically to photograph large art (66x66) painted by my client. Due to the size, I photographed it in 4 segments and stitched it back together in Affinity Photo. The segments are clear and crisp out to the edges so there are no issues with the final reproduction. A metal barrel w/o significant prince increase would improve the score to 5/5.

question

Does this lens work with the Pentax K-70?
Asked by: Anonymous
It should for sure. And as others pointed out a great lens in optical terms (built quality is ok but not more) for that value that works as well as macro as for portray on APS-C. A in depth review can be found here http://www.photozone.de/pentax/906-pentax50f28macro And as others said - it is full frame so if one day you feel like buying K-1 you can use it.
