Chimera OctaPlus 57 Overview

Chimera's OctaPlus family of octagonal Light banks have a patent pending design that allows conversion of this 5-foot Light bank to the OctaPlus 7-foot Light bank in just a few minutes, with no tools, with the included conversion kit. This unique design gives you two Light banks in one.

The whole Chimera OctaPlus family is compatible with strobes or continuous light sources. When used as a 5 ft bank, it will tolerate up to 1200 watts. When used as a 7 ft bank, 2000 watts is the limit.

This light bank requires a speed ring to adapt it to your particular strobe or hot light. Refer to the Accessories section, or click on the Speed Ring Adapter Chart in Specifications for your speed ring. A 3770 stand adapter or other model stand adapter is also recommended for this model, so the weight of the light bank is not supported by the fixture.

Soft silver interior with an innovative graduated baffle for very even light spread.
Fall off from the center of the 7 foot front screen to the edge has been measured at only a 0.2 F-stop.

Chimera OctaPlus 57 Reviews

Great flexible octagan

A great octagan, solid, great construction and you have the ability to extend it and make it a bigger light source.

I would buy this product again and again

Absolutely wonderful! I would have been disappointed if I hadn't gotten the 5' WITH the 7' extension kit. However, I am happy I did, because with the 7' attached it is simply massive and yields very even lighting. The support kit is also nice and sturdy! I am using this with Alien Bees lights and some Arri video lights.

question

> http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/398702-REG/Chimera_6058_Octaplus_5_Light_Bank.html/prm/alsVwDtl < Says that the 7' bank limit is 1,500 Watts, but this one says 2,000; which one is right? I wanna use it with an Arri T2 Location Fresnel and I need to know if it is compatible. Also, what type of diffusion does this product come bundled with? I'm interested in full, half and quarter grid front panels for the 5' and 7' Octaplus banks.
Asked by: Jay
According to the manufacturer, both the 5 foot and 7 foot sizes can withstand up to 3200 watts of continuous lighting. However, Chimera does not offer an Octaplus ring for the Arri T2 Fresnel nor do they offer any other diffusion than the full stop diffuser that is included with the kit.

question

Does anyone know the best way to color correct (CTB on a tungsten light for example) this light?
Asked by: Rentals D.
If the tungsten light placed in this softbox does not have a dedicated gel frame, one could attach a CTB gel on the inner baffle of the light using wooden clothes pins. However, this may require the softbox to be vented due to the build-up of heat that may occur. Your results may vary.

Is a Profoto B10X Plus, (500Ws), powerful enough to use with the Octaplus 5' Light bank? Same question, but how about using it with the 7' Octaplus?
Asked by: Thomas R
You can use a B10x with a 5 or 7' octa. If it is adequate power will depend on the F/stop ISO and other lighting in the scene.

Hi,I think what that the expansion support kit includes a couple extra pieces of hardware that gives extra support with mounting the head. It's a bracket mount.
