ZEISS Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZM Lens
Key Features
  • Leica M-Mount Lens
  • Aperture Range: f/2.8 to f/22
  • One Aspherical Element
  • Two Low Dispersion Elements
Realizing a truly expansive field of view, the Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZM Lens from ZEISS is a fast, wide prime designed for M-mount rangefinder cameras. This super wide-angle utilizes a Distagon optical design to limit distortion, and also employs one aspherical element and two anomalous partial dispersion glass elements to control spherical and chromatic aberrations for a high degree of sharpness and clarity. A floating elements system is also used to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focus range, down to the minimum focusing distance of 11.8". Individual elements have also been treated with a T* anti-reflective coating to suppress lens flare and ghosting, and a built-in lens hood also helps to limit surface reflections when working in strong lighting conditions.

ZEISS Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZM Overview

Realizing a truly expansive field of view, the Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZM Lens from ZEISS is a fast, wide prime designed for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Individual elements have also been treated with a T* anti-reflective coating to suppress lens flare and ghosting, and a built-in lens hood also helps to limit surface reflections when working in strong lighting conditions.

Super wide-angle lens employs a Distagon optical concept to realize well-corrected rectilinear imagery with virtually no distortion.
Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions.
One aspherical element and high refractive index glass helps to reduce spherical aberrations in order to realize a high degree of sharpness.
Two anomalous partial dispersion elements reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved color accuracy and clarity.
ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections and provide greater contrast and color fidelity.
Internal focusing mechanism and a floating elements design help to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focusing range.
Manual focus design enables a minimum focusing distance of 11.8".
Built-in, non-removable lens hood helps to prevent lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color fidelity when working in strongly lit conditions.

question

How does this lens match with the Leica-M240 body with a the EVF2? Can the EVF2 see the full frame effect of the 15mm lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
The lens produces a purple fringe with the M240 that can easily be processed out in photoshop or the like... and its not rangefinder coupled, which is not a big deal.

Why is the ZE version bigger heavier and 95mm filter? Is it a better lens?
Asked by: Arthur Or Patricia
The ZEISS Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZM Lens is heavier as they are made for the Leica M-Mount. The ZEISS Milvus 15mm f/2.8 ZE Lens for Canon EF and the ZEISS Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZM Lens have equal optical quality.

Does this lens couple with Leica Rangefinder?

Does this lens couple with Leica Rangefinder?
Asked by: Stephen
Not coupled, but fairly easy to put subjects in focus by the focus scale due to the much greater depth of field of a super-wide-angle lens.

question

I'm thinking about purchasing a panosonic GH4K and I'm not sure if this will fit or if they even make a mount for it.
Asked by: Anonymous
This Zeiss 15mm f/2.8 lens is designed with a Leica M mount. You can mount this onto a Panasonic GH4 with the use of an adapter: http://bhpho.to/1qF3lT3

question

why does this lens need a Center Filter?
Asked by: Anonymous
The center filter is meant to average the light distribution from the center of the lens to the frame edges to minimize vignetting - especially in areas of even density, such as blue sky, seamless backgrounds etc. The use of the center filter was more important in the pre-digital days, when post correction was more difficult.
