When using wide-angle lenses on the Ikon rangefinder camera, users may want to pick up a ZI Viewfinder from ZEISS in order to ensure accurate framing. This optical finder is designed to demonstrate the perspective of 21mm lenses, which provide a wider angle of view than the Ikon's integrated rangefinder. Photographers can use this to check framing while the rangefinder can be used to confirm focus. Also, it easily attaches to the camera's hot shoe.

I'm very happy with the purchase. Viewfinder is super bright; it appears brighter than the actual scene. It is also very immersive, making it easy to frame your shots.

This viewfinder is extremely bright, it made my Zeiss Ikon Finder seems dim!!! Beautiful and well made. Distortion free too!

How is the 2-3mm offset of the Leica M flash shoe cause this viewfinder to show an incorrect frame for distant subjects?
The ZEISS ZI Viewfinder for 21mm Lens gets mounted on the hot shoe and is designed for Zeiss Ikon cameras. Since the hot shoes on Leica M cameras are in a slightly different position, the frame in the viewfinder is different from what the lens sees.

How is this finder if you wear glasses?
How is this finder if you wear glasses?
The ZEISS ZI Viewfinder for 21mm Lens has no flexible eyecup around the optics to prevent light leak. The absence of this feature likely makes this viewfinder less than ideal for anyone with glasses on.

What is the purpose of the second horizontal ...
What is the purpose of the second horizontal frameline at the top of the viewfinder?
The second horizontal frameline, located just below the primary frameline, is a parallax assist, meant to approximate maximum field of view when photographing subjects less than 1m (3.3 ft) away from the camera.

question
This was designed for the Ikon cameras; does it give you accurate framing for Leica M cameras?
The ZEISS Viewfinders are designed for use in cameras where the hot shoe is positioned directly over the center of the lens (as was the case with the discontinued ZEISS Ikon rangefinder camera). The hot shoe on the camera in question is positioned off-center. So while the AOV of the viewfinder will match the lens, the framing will not be accurate due to the differences in the hot shoe placement. If you can accept this, then the viewfinder will work on the camera.
