ZEISS 1365-650 overview

  • 1Description

Balancing a super-wide focal length with a compact form factor, the silver Biogon T* 21mm f/2.8 ZM from ZEISS is a versatile lens designed for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Its wide-angle design is complemented by a Biogon optical concept, which nearly eliminates distortion for well-corrected, accurate rendering. A T* anti-reflective coating has also been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for greater color accuracy and contrast in strong lighting conditions. Additionally, the lens's manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 1.6' away.

Biogon optical concept benefits the super-wide focal length by helping to virtually eliminate distortion for clean, realistic rendering.
ZEISS T* anti-reflective coatings have been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections in order to provide greater image clarity, contrast, and color fidelity.
Manual focus design enables a minimum focusing distance of 1.6'.

    ZEISS 1365-650 reviews

Biogon T* 21mm f/2.8 ZM Lens (Silver) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Edge to Edge Sharpness like no other I purchased this lens, on impulse, for a trip with my M9. I already own the incredible 28mm Summicron, but thought something a bit wider may be necessary, and the Leica 21 was not in stock (no surprise). I was not at all disappointed. This lens is incredibly sharp, edge to edge, even at 2.8! The color rendition is outstanding and it is built like fine instrument. The focus is silky smooth and well dampened. Flare is very well controlled. Do yourself a favor, save the money you are considering spending on a Leica and get this lens. With the money left over, go on a nice trip and use the lens!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compares well to Leica M lenses for M9. I have purchased and used on my M9 Leica's Summicron lenses at 35 and 50mm, and really appreciate them for their handling and sharpness, but chose to give this Zeiss wide angle lens a try after reading various reviews. I've used this 21mm a few times primarily for taking photos of historic homes in older neighborhoods where you often can't get far enough away to use 35 or 50mm lenses and get the whole subject in. Results have been very good, nearly as impressive as my experience with the two Leica M lenses mentioned. Definitely a quality product all around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great lens I bought this for my M9 based on many positive online reviews, and a relative unwillingness to pay $6500 to try a Leica. I have to say I am absolutely delighted with it. I have already produced images so much to my liking that I suspect I will never part with it (and I've already parted with several Leicas). I haven't used a Leica 21, but this lens is every bit the equal (if not better) in the quality of images it produces of the Leica 28/2.8, 28/2, 35/2, 50/2, 50/1.4, and 75/1.4. That it is offered at the price it is is just ridiculous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works well on Sony NEX This lens works well on my Sony NEX, without the color-shift issues of other wide rangefinder lenses. There is some vignetting, probably from the same sensor issue, but color shift is negligible. It has the usual Zeiss contrast and pop that's missing from the kit lenses. It needs a hood: a simple 46-37 step-down ring provides the right amount of shade for the 1.5x crop NEX sensor. This lens will be on my NEX more or less permanently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect companion Combined with viewfinder 21, this is the perfect companion for my Leica M9-P. Its crystal sharp from edge to edge, and with the f/2.8, it handles semi-dark conditions extremely well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As good as the write-ups say I took this lens with an M9 and a 5Dii with a 24TS2 downtown this morning. Both gave great results but I got more wow from the M9/21. No distortion for my eye. Plenty of room for my photographic skills to grow with this, but that's the right way around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Lens I have number of Japanese Zeiss lenses and a German made 15mm . The fit, finish and optical design is excellent on all of them. The only complaint is some of the lenses have excess grease oozing out of the rear portion of the lens. I have had to clean this up with a toothpick and lens tissue. The 21mm is one of my favorites of the Zeiss line. Beautiful IQ. The attached photo was taken with a 6mp Epson RD1.
