Ilford 1984565 overview

  • 1Description

Ilford Rapid Fixer is a non-hardening rapid fixer supplied as a liquid concentrate that should be diluted with water for use. It is easy and convenient to use in the range of 18°C (66°F) for fixing black and white film and paper in all manual and machine processing applications. The fixing process assures that the latent image remains on the film or paper. This step is general preceded by a stop rinse and followed by a hypo wash to remove any trace of the fixer which might cause staining and degradation of the image.

At a 1+4 dilution, RC papers should be fixed from 30 seconds to 1 minute. Fiber based prints should be fixed for 1-2 minutes depending on the dilution. It should be noted that Ilford recommends that gloves, eye protection, apron or overall be worn when handling and mixing all chemicals. Ilford Rapid Fixer must not be used with other fixing hardeners. The fixing agent in Ilford Rapid Fixer is ammonium thiosulphate and contains no sodium thiosulphate (hypo).

This fixer is good for approximately 600 135–36 films or 2000 20.3 x 25.4cm (8 x 10") RC prints or 1000 20.3 x 25.4cm (8 x 10") FB prints.

Ilford 1984565 reviews

Rapid Fixer (Liquid,5 Liters) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ilford rapid fixer I'm using this for black and white film and paper. On film, it will remove the tint found on many films these days, with extra time and effort. The five litre economy size saves some dollars. The bottle has a wide mouth, apparently to allow easier filling of dunk tanks. If you use trays or spiral tanks, you will want a funnel to transfer from the large bottle into a smaller one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product. I've been using Ilford Rapid Fixer for a while now. Ilford makes a good product. The downside is the shipping for the large size. It's worth it for me as it is one less chemical I have to mix myself, and even with shipping it is still cheaper than the smaller containers. I just order it when I need other items to maximize my shipping dollar.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Processing Paper and Film I use 1+4 dilution with a two bath fibre paper bath fix. I find 1 litre of fix good for 30-40 8x10 sheets. For resin paper I use 1+9 dilution for single bath. To save time and money I will use the 1+4 dilution (two bath fix) for resin paper. For film Ilford Delta 100 at 1+4 dilution. I keep the fix for paper and film in separate jugs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What else? It removes excess silver from film, and does a great job of it. Not much else to say here. A bottle this size lasts me 6 months and is way cheaper than buying 1 liter bottles. Even if you use it to develop 1 roll of 35 mm film a week it's still worth it and it won't go bad before you use it all

Rated 5 out of 5 by from quick and easy I like the Ilford rapid fix because it is fast and I do not have a sensitivity to it as I do with Kodak fixer. Trying to get my school to buy this fixer because of the sensitivity I have to their Kodak fix generic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product For a number of years I have used Ilford Rapid Fix for both film and paper. There is no better non hardening rapid fix available at such a reasonable price. Ilford quality and dependability is unsurpassed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy and convenient Like it says, easy and convenient. I use it for b+w film and have done so for 30+ years. Non-hardening rapid fixers fix film rapidly (yup!) and wash more quickly. Saves time and saves water.
