Audix i5 overview

  • 1Description

The Audix i5 instrument microphone is an ideal solution for sound reinforcement and recording applications. The dynamic capsule features a cardioid polar pattern with a linear frequency response, capable of accurately reproducing signals at high sound pressure levels (SPL). The cardioid pattern effectively minimizes noise and ambiance at the off-axis sections of the capsule, reducing feedback and audio leakage caused by adjacent instruments. The i5 is ideal for capturing snare drum, percussion, guitar and bass cabinets, horns and vocals.

Linear Frequency Response
Tailored frequency response of 50 Hz to 16 kHz accentuates midrange and mid-high frequencies while eliminating low-frequency noise.
High SPL Handling
The i5 is designed to accurately reproduce high audio peak levels without noise and distortion.
Cardioid Polar Pattern
The cardioid polar pattern attenuates signal at the sides of the capsule. The result eliminates noise and ambiance caused by speakers, monitors and adjacent instruments and vocalists.
Durable Body
The i5 features a zinc alloy body with a steel grille and black e-coat finish for great durability.
Accessories Included
The mic comes complete with a mic clip and carrying pouch.

    Audix i5 reviews

i5 Dynamic Instrument Cardioid Microphone is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Getting that snappy snare sound I first came across the i5 on a snare at a venue that was helping out. I was not familiar with the item, but came to appreciate how it gave the snare (which was a pretty mediocre snare drum) good snap, allowing it cut through the mix. So now I'm calling the shots at another venue and after listening to a snare through an SM57 for 3 months, have gone back again to the i5. Is the i5 idea, or something I would use in my studio? Probably not for this use. But, the purposes are different. I'm doing contemporary music where i need the snare to sound almost piccolo snare-like, which this mic gives me. Plus the darn thing is tough as nails. I have (and will) buy more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No more SM57's A great multi-purpose dynamic mic, I use this small-sized, big-sounding tool for instruments and vocals alike. It obviously excels on the snare drum and on guitar cabinets, but I like the sound I get from it on various percussion, brass and lower-toned woodwind instruments. It doesn't have the shrill high-end crispness of a condenser, but you don't always need that. Overall, it sounds clean and strong, and adeptly resists feedback.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid We got one of these as a snare mic in a drum mic kit, and bought another for our second snare. Good mic. No complaints. Fair price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just a bit brighter than SM57 The i5 is great on guitar cab and snare...The SM57 is warmer, but if you need a brighter tone... This is it!
